Completed first metric century today
As the title says I did this this morning, I bought a vintage peugeot 10 speed a month ago so I've only been riding for a month.
In February this year I was 208 lbs and lazy, had a belly, not eating well or working out. My wife was going to a gym dedicated to spinning and rowing. This gym decided to do a century ride training program on spinning bikes that was a 12 week program. She convinced me to do it, I thought she was crazy, but it was the best thing I ever did to get back in shape. We started out at 90 minutes with a trainer instructing us on hills, pace etc, and increasing the time by 15 minutes each week up to 4 hours. As the time grew, I started eating better, doing spin classes 2-3 time/week in addition to the long ride. Our final ride I did about 75 miles in 4 hours. I was 189lbs when the program ended and I am a few lighter than that now, I feel amazing and bought an old vintage peugeot to keep it going out on the road.
I completed the metric century in 3:44 today, albeit with a nice tailwind for some time. Myself and a couple of friends just registered for the canam century ride in August, can't wait.
Every road rider I have encountered on the trails I ride waves or says hi and are very cordial, this is a really cool community. I now have a few friends that are road riders that I train with and have become great friends with. Can't wait to see what I can accomplish by the end of the riding season.

I do live in Canada, although right across the border from buffalo so probably one of the most southern parts of the country. I figure I'll be able to ride until October or November, but anytime there is a chance of snow/freezing rain they salt and sand the crap out of the roads. I don't think I want to get involved in that.
We are lucky in that we have about 200-300 kms of dedicated bike/waling/running trail in the area but it is off limits during winter as they don;t maintain it during winter. I'm not comfortable riding streets in inclement weather as I don't trust the drivers on a good day, let alone in the winter.

Excellent, now, 100 is a real goal.
So plan on doing a Metric every weekend, or every Saturday and Sunday.
The addiction has started
