Brake Pad Rivet
A noob question. I just purchased new Kool Stop "Dura Ace" style brake pads for my Tektro R741 calipers and I am trying to figure out the rivet in the pad retainer they are inserted into (may not be correct term). Can it be reused and how? If not can a new ones be inserted into the reatiner and where do I purchase a set?

Are you sure it's not an Allen head screw?

I looked at it in somewhat dim light and it did not appear to be so. By your question I would assume that typically these are allen head screws?

it's a very small allen head screw. (i'm thinking 1.5mm) Reusing it is problematic, given that they tend to get gunked up and strip out.
That's the reason the pads come with fresh screws.

There are different pad retainer designs depending on the manufacturer. Shimano ships brake pads with new pad retainer screws that work with Shimano brake shoes. Last time I looked Kool Stop did not include any pad retainers, so you'd have to re-use what you have.

^ True.
But it looks like Tektro pad holders use an allen screw

Yeah, that looks like it's the Shimano style design.
