Blasted by a semi today...justice is mine
 

I'm out on my lunch ride today which is normally 16 miles out and back. On the return with less than a mile to go, I get the 18" pass, swerving rear tires, plus the horn blast from a jerk weed semi driver.

Moral to the story...If you are going to buzz a cyclist in a company semi, make sure he isn't the Plant Manager of the company next door to yours, and definitely make sure he doesn't know your Plant Manager. :D

They aren't firing the guy, but he is being sent through a refresher safety course and reprimanded. Maybe he'll learn a lesson.

He may well learn something. In addition to damaging the company's image, those who drive unsafely represent a liability. My guess is that they're pretty serious about communicating professional expectations.

Well, that really is the thing. All joking aside, the corporate, as well as personal liability attached to that type of recklessness is staggering. I always make the effort to make direct contact with a business manager, when I see something like this occurring. When I have received complaints about the behavior of my own drivers in the past, I have come down on them like a ton of bricks and most guys responsible for a business will have the same attitude. Allowing a clown to endanger the financial well being of a business is not acceptable and is rarely tolerated if you can reach the right person.

That is the complete problem with cycling. When you are young and fast you can't afford the cool stuff. When you are middle aged and slow, you have all the cool toys and guys make fun of you for having equipment better than you ride. Oh well, they'll just have to be jealous and make fun. :D

You must be kidding. Threatening someone with a rig is so unbelievably dangerous, stupid, and unprofessional that he should be pulled off the road. And yes, I have driven for a living (though that was more than 20 years ago). The drivers where I worked could lose their jobs for much less.

I've been riding for decades in every condition imaginable and I think I've had something like he described happen maybe twice. The vast majority of drivers are very professional and there's no excuse for what that one did.

3. I'll confess to bias. OP has a nice story and I would like to see this thread last.
