    I've used the regular Gatorskins and they were okay. Once they start to wear down it was flat after flat. I've had Gatorskin Hardshells on my last two bikes. I think I've had one flat in three years due to a piece of radial tire wire. I'm pretty confident when I'm out I will not get a flat. For instance, a couple of weekends ago I accidentally rode through a whole mess of broken glass. As soon as I cleared the debris I checked my tires. I had a triangle shaped bit of glass stuck in my tire, but it did not penetrate. I just flicked it off and went on my way.

    I rode Conti-4 seasons w/o problems, few flats toward the end of tire life @ 2,000 mi or so. After reading a thread like this one i tried the Gatorskins - i have about 500 miles on them and considering taking them off for 4seasons again. Grip and ride is horrible on Gatorskins compared to Conti-4 seasons. I ride these on my cross/ rainy day bike with 25c's.

    Gotta go with the Gatorskins. Those things are a solid as you can get.

    Yes, they weigh a ton, and you'll definitely notice the reduced grip on cornering, but they're well built. I have been using a Gatorskin on my rear powertap wheel which gets ridden on the trainer on weekdays, and on long outdoor rides on weekends, and even after 6 months of regular riding, there's barely any wear on the tire. Even with all the 'trainer eats your tires' business - it's been completely resistant to trainer wear.

    I ran ContiGP4000s before, but stopped using them because my trainer flattened the profile on the within a few months.

    I've still had 2 punctures with the Gatorskins outdoors, but those were nasty nails that would have gone through anything.

    I was getting flats regularly. I switched to gatorskins and haven't had one since.

    Same here. I had four flats in one week on my Specialized tires, since switching to Gatorskins, I have yet to flat. In a year in a half. The rolling resistance is higher, but I enjoy the 25s I currently have.

    As a low-end tire connoisseur, I have to throw in the CST line. 23's are ok with me, I prefer 25's, and a good 28 is hard to find. CST Caldera Comp 25's are comfortable and durable, and they roll like 28's. OF course tire liners around here are mandatory, but the same setup on different tires yielded more flats in the same number of miles as these (none).

    I had Armadillos to replace whatever the tires were that came with my bike when I bought it last year April, and I was constantly getting flats. Every other ride or so. Was driving me nuts. There are little bits of shale all over the roads here in Western NY and they cut into the tire. I got so frustrated I brought the bike into the LBS where I bought the Armadillos and asked "What am I doing wrong!!!???" They asked me, "Where do you ride?" Well, I didn't drive 100 miles away to come to your LBS, I felt like telling them, I ride in this area. Well, to make a long story short, I bought Gatorskins and only last week had my 2nd flat in probably 3K+ miles. The first was from a sharp piece of metal like a staple, and last week I couldn't tell what caused it. I'm too much of a neophyte to comment on the ride quality, although I'm tempted to try one of the other tires that people mention. But I went from being totally paranoid about getting flats to not thinking about it at all with the Gatorskins. In fact I was worried that my CO2 pump might be rusted shut I hadn't used it in so long.

    Try the Conti Grand Prix 4 Seasons, they come in 25 and 28. The 28 looks more like 27mm to my ruler, so it may fit where other 28s don't.

    Ur 4 seasons are 25c for rainy days??how do they roll in dry weather? Thinking on going with the 4seasons now just trying to decide if I want to try 25s..I've always had 23s and currently have 28s on my cross bike

    May just be me, but I've also found Maxxis Refuse tires ride a bit better than other tough tires like Gatorskins. One thing I'll say about Gators, though... you'll be hard pressed to find another tire that'll give you as many miles as they will -- at least in my experience. I've got more than 2,000 miles on my rear already and have never been able to do that with any other tire, including the Refuse.

    On my primary bike I run 28mm Conti Grand Prix 4 Seasons, they run a bit smaller than 28 in real life, maybe 26-27mm wide. They roll great in wet or dry.

    They seem to have improved the ride. I bought a set 9 or 10 years ago when they first came out and thought they rode like iron. So I was skeptical when my buddy kept advocating them. I finally gave in, mostly because he was able to get me a set cheap, and I've been very impressed by how much suppler they are.

    Fixedbruno - if i pump up the 25cc 4 seasons to 110psi, the rolling resistance is negligible.
    I run the 4 seasons on my Cross bike, i still have 23's on my road bike. 4 seasons were about 230g each tire - vs my 23's PR4s @ 200g each.

    Second on the Bonti tires. Have run a pair of R3's for 2 seasons with no flats. They also roll like crazy and have good grip. Just ordered a new set of Vittoria Rubino pro slicks however...have a friend that loves them and they were 1/2 the price of the Bonti's. Figured as the R3's are starting to flatten out in the middle it's just a matter of time..been loyal to them for 3 seasons however!

    Vit Pro slicks are nice riding tires, but I definitely get better wear with the Michelins

    You can get a flat with any tire. I put more than 3,000 miles on a pair of 25mm All Condition Armadillo Elites last season without a single flat and have more than 1,300 miles this year between new 28mm ACAEs on my touring bike and new 25mm ACAEs on my roadie (the old ones were still OK but new bike/new tires and I now have a spare set with a few hundred miles left in them). Previously I used the standard Spec All Conditions and Bontrager T2s and averaged a flat every 200 - 300 miles on the same roads I'm riding today.

    Some surprisingly tough, inexpensive, and heavy tires are the Bontrager H2 Ecos. Not something you want for fast rides or hills but if you are on a budget and need a tough commuter tire, they are good bang for the buck.

    It was a lucky shot for sure...The LBS guys were quite shocked actually. I think it was auto glass. A nice chunk, the right shape and orientation, very much a glass spike that I pulled out of the tire... No biggie.
