Yeah, it's been rough being a Giants fan recently. Only two Super Bowl victories over the vile Patriots of Boston. Somehow we manage to get to sleep at night, after a good bout of crying.

Eight pages. Paging @halfspeed, remember when you thought this wouldn't make it past one?

It's a thread about LA. What did you expect? It either goes the distance, or someone posts something that offends the mods and it gets closed.

Well, I predicted 8 pages. Halfspeed thought it would be counted it posts, not pages.

Amusingly, I actually like that Eli is a ******. It makes him more relatable, to me, than someone like Brady. All that and still a double champion. Let the haters hate.

It's an interesting aspect how people think of the villains in our society, some of whom even go on to achieve hero status.

I am personally thrilled that Lance Armstrong will ride Ragbrai this year. Cycling owes him a debt of gratitude and an apology for not acknowledging the problem without before the politically correct and thought police took over. For 100 years everyone knew it was not possible to do the Tour without help. There's no way to overcome the oxygen debt and rebuild the body overnight for 21 straight days over 2,700 miles. Anyone who thinks you can ride the Tour on a Huffy and a buttered croissant is delusional. You don't don't have to like Lance, but respect his accomplishments.

A personal observation only. I'm not sure anyone but the real haters respect the accomplishments (I was not a Lance fan for many years before the truth finally came out). What drives a lot of the dislike, IMO, was his phoniness, starting with some aspects of his life story before the cancer, his confrontational attitude toward the early accusations, his using his clout and his lawyers to ruin people who did speak the truth about his drug usage, or who did not go along with the doping and the subsequent cover-ups. I have no doubt that some of the denials were an attempt to preserve the foundation, which has done a lot of good work. I suspect much more was to preserve his ego. I can only see some of his actions as driven by that ego, in particular his seeming need to enter races, where he should have no need, either monetarily or to prove anything. FWIW, I did not see any reason other than ego to go for the last two tour wins, where historically riders had retired, despite still being capable of competing at a high level.

He doesn't have any "accomplishments". He sat on his butt from 1999 to 2005. The only reason he is riding in RAGBRAI is to satisfy his own ego to regain the adoration of the koolaid drinkers who he has fooled.

Of course the Tour could be done without doping. It would just be slower.
