Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think I might use my 1 week vacation on this thing. I'm from Iowa, but never did the Ragbrai. It's either that or the AICHE conference in November, and I'll check out California while I'm at it. Damn...

I guess it's brave in a way to put yourself out there with a bunch of people who may feel let down by your actions.

Personally, I think that if he held a signing of any LA memorabilia that people brought with them, the line-up from the table would be several blocks long... five abreast.

There are still a huge number of people who believe LA has been deeply wronged by the system, and can't see past that to understand the nastier parts of the saga.

It's an interesting aspect how people think of the villains in our society, some of whom even go on to achieve hero status.

Society loves to make heros, and loves even more to tear them down.

A lot of people know only of the Livestrong foundation, not the cyclist. They appreciate what the foundation has done for cancer research.

And the foundation has done jack squat for cancer research. They don't fund research. They fund support for people undergoing treatment, but don't spend a penny on research. That's one of the many pieces of misinformation floating out there about him.

And "the system" isn't through with him yet. There's still the whistleblower lawsuit pending against him.

for the uneducated, having a Tour de France winner, regardless of the doping issue, and one of the greatest cyclists of all time riding your ride is a great draw.

i.e. it is a positive thing

It's cute how two bad teams care that much about each other. Touching, really.

As a scientist, there's a big part of me that feels that more people are helped in the long term by supporting research, but as someone who has had a number of people in my family survive (and others not survive) cancer, I do see the value in supporting people undergoing treatment. It's just that that's now what Livestrong was sold as even though that's what it does that rubs me the wrong way.

Coming from a non play off team fanboy who roots for NY and lives in Texas? I refer you to last years standings. NFC eastern division champs.. Washington Redskins. The runner up trophy's are at the end of the hallway, in the outhouse ...
