Weekend Cycling Ride Reports - July 20/21
For those of you in the middle of summer ... tell us about your summer cycling adventures. For those of us who are not enjoying summer weather, tell us about whatever you're going to keep fit.
Saturday - it's been pouring rain here for a couple days now. We're up to nearly 100 mm of rain now and it's still going.
However, we decided to get out of the house for a little while and went for a 6.83 km walk in a local nature reserve.
We've been walking a lot lately, and my weekly walking total is 26.65 km.

Solo 30 mile ride today on the flatlands. Windy though. Average speed 16 mph including waiting at traffic lights. 19 mph for most strava segments, wasn't pushing too hard cause I didn't know if I could do the distance by myself. Haven't done big distances much and am a lot heavier/bigger than I used to be

Did a 50 mile solo ride on Saturday, fairly flat at 16.9 MPH avg. This is my furthest distance to date. I did need a quick refuel at mile 35 and grabbed a sausage & egg sandwich and a short coffee from Starbucks. I had a Honey Stinger in a jersey pocket, but the sandwich sounded better.

71 mi at 14.9 mph saturday, flat, personal longest distance. too much traffic, not much fun.
43 mi at 16.3 mph today, flat, nice road, felt better. saw a great blue heron at the halfway point.
now time for some food!

Also a PR for distance for me on Sunday. 108.4 miles, including a timed solo century around Cayuga Lake (plus farther North to Rte. 31 and farther West through Seneca Falls to make the timed route 100 miles). Went 5:44:47 on the century. That was the saddle time, but I only took 3 pretty quick bathroom / fluid refill stops, so it maaaybe could have been sub-6 for the total, but probably just over and I (conveniently) didn't record the total time. My goal was just to do the ride time at faster than 17 mph (with the off-the-bike time at the bare minimum) and I beat that by 8 minutes and 0.4 mph. This is a "pretty hilly" course (43 feet per mile of climbing, if you count every elevation increase). Not brutal, but honest, with 2 category 4 climbs, a few other fairly challenging hills and plenty of long, gentle rollers. So I'm happy with a solo 17.4 mph average on it.

Lumpy triathlon bike course. My first Olympic-distance of the season. The new girl I'm dating and her coworker were there to be duly impressed.

Saturday was a typical 40 mile ride.
Sunday my body wasn’t feeling quite right. It was really hot even though I was up early. I got buzzed twice by big semi tanker trucks. It seemed like I had to deal with a high number of salmon cyclist and drivers disregarding my right of way. In other words it wasn’t the best ride. However, I made it home safely.
