Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Apart from some scratches on the brifter's levers it looks brand new.

I suppose. I was thinking it was a triathlon bike which would disqualify you ..... ok, you are absolved.

An interesting migration to the 41 Adel
Many start on a Hybrid but most start on a road bike versus TT bike.

Speaking of which...or combining them...the best in the world has now validated the often dismissed notion that you can combine both a road bike and TT bike effectively. None other than TdF leading Froome rode a stage on his road bike with clip on aerobars.
See below.

Since your Ridley has a pretty aggressive riding position, a worthy candidate to do the same thing. Since the best rider on the planet seems to believe its viable, now you can sell your TT bike and put Campy on your Ridley.
Enjoy the bike. Road bikes are the best.

Interesting chainwheel there, Campag!
The question whether or not there will be at some point an aerobar on my new bike never came up.
As you probably already know ... I'm an aerobar kinda guy
For now I'll keep it as it is to be able to dial in the fit and get used to it.
The only question that did come up is: which aerobar.
For drafting triathlon only short aerobars that don't extend past the tips of the brake levers are allowed.
The Vision mini TT seems cool ... but I'll let it rest for now and I hope I find some secondhand deals later in the year.

Please don't tell me I didn't
You mean 6600?

The locking ring on the cassette said 6500 and that's got me confused but it's probably just an older locking ring on a new cassette.

Makes perfect sense... for an uphill TT.

It's pretty easy to tell the difference - 9sp vs. 10sp.

I'm sure most of you won't like it, but I added an aerobar to my new bike.
Here it is, on top of De Muur:

Close-up of the aerobar setup:

It's an old model, namely the Oval Concepts A710 SCCS.
It allows me to still fully use the top of the drop bar for climbing.
The extensions aren't allowed to stick out further than the brifters due to triathlon regulations.
They are connected with a Profile Design aero bridge and then I taped the whole thing for added comfort.

I can still BASH you! Get rid of that farakht aerobar and learn to use an IAB, you've even got the cheater cables to help you get started.

But other than that, Sweet!

I did indeed do some IABing on the last couple of rides when I didn't have the aerobar yet and I did indeed even try to hold the cables as a sort of anchor point.
It was okay ... but not a position I want to be in to hammer it for minutes on end.
This bike is intended to actually be used in olympic distance and team relay tri races next year, so that aerobar might come in handy for that.

You get more comfortable with it as you practice it. Sort of like riding no-hands...

But as someone mentioned, Welcome to the dark side.

De Muur looks cool. I just moved out Belgium last week after a year in Liège/Luik so I'm sort of kicking myself for not hitting it at least once (I did spend a decent amount of my time in the Ardennes though... Mur de Huy/La Redoute/Saint-Nicolas ). Enjoy the bike.

..and so the long, dark descent into madness begins. Soon terms like "kilojoules", "KOPS" and "yaw angle" will enter your lexicon. You'll worry about the weight of your bottle cage bolts and eventually order an expensive set of "carbino-titano evo" bolts that are hand made one at a time by a guy named Luigi. You'll get is a fist fight with someone because of a passionate debate about competing press-fit bottom bracket standard. You'll own expensive bike-specific socks that somehow incorporate carbon. You will sprinkle crystalized EPO on your gluten-free breakfast meusli. Resistance is futile.
