Newbie considering this Trek 1600 ...

I'm relatively new to road bicycles, but I'm looking to go the used rout. I found a Trek 1600 listed for $500 that looks interesting. Here it is:

What can you guys tell me based on the information included, listed price and pictures? Obviously fit and feel are paramount, and I'd be testing anything out before I lay any money down. But from the looks of this one, is it worth pursuing, trying to talk price down, etc.?
