Quoted from the above:
"More recently, particularly in the US, a Fred is more often somebody with higher quality and more expensive cycling equipment than his or her talent and commitment would warrant. For example, a stereotypical Fred by this definition would be an individual with little cycling experience who watches the highlights of a few Tour de France stages, then goes to a bike store and purchases a Trek carbon fiber Madone in Team Discovery colors, along with Team Discovery shorts and jersey. Thus outfitted with equipment virtually identical to that which Lance Armstrong used, far more expensive than that used by many ...... on & on.

Either my current team jersey, my previous team jerseys, or something like my Sierra Nevada jerseys.
I don't even wear my own state championships jerseys. They are stuffed at the back of my dresser drawer.

Yeah, its hard to find good looking jerseys that wont make you look like a christmas tree. Specially if you have some colors on your bike and/or helmet/glasses/shoes. Most of the year I'd probably wear a jacket anyway so problem solved.

This. Plus, I'm enough of a poser in my regular flashy sleek kit. Also, someone might expect me to ride really fast. The kits do look excellent on pros though.
Also.... if I run into Team Saxo Bank while out riding, they might resent me. (I was actually in Bormio, Italy last month and DID cross paths with Saxo Bank guys... they gave me a wave...cool.)

none of those fans wearing cycling jerseys have earned the right, nor do they properly understand and appreciate cycling.
uncivilized fools. what kind of fool dedicates hours of a day to support a peloton with cheering?
i bet they dont even appreciate bb90 over a square taper. middle class scum. mucking the glory of the only true form of cycling professional competition.

If you feel so strongly about it......make your own thread instead of commenting on post from 2013. At least you will have a current conversation going that way.....
And since you mentioned it.....if I bought a cannondale jersey from ebay or craigslist (aka not from a vendor) am I not allowed to wear it?

Speaking as a fat guy myself, it seems to me that anyone with a waist size over 40 or so is better off with a more relaxed fit. And so are the people around them.

I dunno, I used to like the look of the pro kits I once caught up to a guy wearing a Team Sky kit, thought to myself, "Fred who thinks he's Chris Froome". We hit a hill & he dropped me like so much loose change. Turns out he was not a Fred ;(. My point is, wear what you like, (generic or branded) don't worry what people think & enjoy the ride.
Personally I like to use my "Ride for a Purpose" jerseys that I used in my last 2 races, that way I'm "advertising" for a charity or safe cycling awareness campaign.

Actually, there are quite a few of us who don't want to see things that can't be unseen. And more to the point, there is absolutely zero advantage - and several significant disadvantages - to being a big fat guy stuffed into tight Lycra.
Speaking as a fat guy myself, it seems to me that anyone with a waist size over 40 or so is better off with a more relaxed fit. And so are the people around them.

Yes, deeply, and I'm proud of you.
Seriously though, I don't know whether that's official "Team Fuji" kit (or if there is such a thing), but it just looks like aggressively branded apparel, and tasteful as such things go. Presumably you have a Fuji bike, but unless you had the socks, shoes, helmet and gloves to go with it, I don't think you'd be impersonating a pro, so there's nothing particularly offensive about it.
Thank you.

Please take no offense, but you have already given up. You call yourself an old guy and appear to be determined to prove it to yourself and everyone else. No one lives forever, but when you set yourself apart from the vibrant segments of society, you are dead before your time. Jeans are comfortable and fun. T-shirts are too. And don't forget sandals. The dress code of our US society has drastically changed. You can go along and be part of the living or just lie down in your grave and drift away in your collared shirt and creased slacks.
Make no mistake, I like to dress up too when the occasion is right for it, but these days that is exceptionally rare.
Your contention regarding what women like is absurd. Do you honestly think your SO wants to be reminded how old she is getting by being with someone who dresses like an old fart? If you look young, she feels young. If you don't believe me, just sit at the bar near the hostess stand of a fashionable restaurant in a modern city like Houston, Portland, Chicago, or San Diego. Take a good look at how the guys with the best looking women are dressed. It ain't in a pressed white dress shirt tucked into khaki slacks. It is usually rumpled jeans or shorts and a polo worn outside the pants. No socks or sandals in summer. There is not a restaurant in Houston (a noted dining town) where wearing a sport jacket at dinner is not overdressing. Not one!
You can pretend the world isn't changing or you can be part of it. Up to you. I doubt you have any years on me, but we couldn't disagree more. I have been retired for 5 years and all I wear is what's fashionable and comfortable, jeans and long sleeve t-shirts in winter, shorts and short sleeve t-shirts in summer. Never going back.

Meh. Aside from folks who claim to know what women want (seriously, no one knows that) I think adult men walking around in shorts, tees, and flip-flops look like overgrown children. And I don't see that dressing like a grownup is equivalent to "lying down in your grave".
I'm not going around telling folks to wear three piece suits everywhere they go, but come on, no one's going to take you seriously when you're dressed like a homeless guy living on the beach.

If it doesn't matter what one wears, why not let someone else decide?
Whatever a person wears, it inevitably expresses something, and when we're careless it says "I'm not paying any attention - to where I am, who I am, what I'm doing, or even the weather." Of course there's no point worrying about whether anyone pays any attention, understands it correctly or likes it, but we do control what it says. The thing to consider is whether it's a good thing and the truth.
