I wear them. The only reason I wear them is for the extra gel padding. I've got a bad wrist and without plenty of padding between my hand and the handlebar, I couldn't ride for long. I even have those Specialized barphat gels under the tape. If it wasn't for that, probably wouldn't bother.

I really do not need them for comfort. They are little more than glorified handkerchief for me.

In summer, I wear light ones with almost no padding, but a large snotrag area. In winter, I do need them desperately and riding would be impossible without them.

I do that every time I fail to avoid some glass. It's one reason I always wear full-fingered gloves (easier for rear tire).

I have worn gloves since the 80's. Mostly habit but having them to mop up sweat by my brow is a bonus.

Hate wearing them in warm weather and will only do so when sweat and sunscreen make it hard to grip the bars.

Went on a group ride tonight and rode barehanded. Hands didn't slip, didn't crash and break my clavicle or bloody my hands. Just lucky I guess.

While I dont fall ON my hands, I still find them vary useful, and they do get skinned up sometimes. They are very useful for reachong and directing your fall/momentum. To me, falling safely is natural, and my hands are a part of that equation.

I dont wear gloves though. I have commuted for years and only wore gloves when it was cold. I had been road cycling for months before I bothered to buy bike shorts. I then bought a jersey several months later purely to hold my calories and "look" more like a cyclist. Then I went clipless (I wasnt commuting as often). I now have a pair of actual cyclimg gloves - but they are uncomfortable and make my hands sweaty. I wear them if it is cold. I see zero reason for gloves in warm weather. I don't have much weight on my hands anyway. I probably won't wear gloves to my first race, because I will want to be comfortable.

I feel like I have less feel and control with gloves.
I have padded gel bartape that is very comfortable and not slippery when used with bare hands.

One time I forgot my gloves and rode anyway. I died.

Seriously though, I'm thinking about going gloveless on the next couple rides to mellow out the circular tan lines I've created on the backs of my hands. The wife has been complaining about them.

I had some Deda bar tape that was really slippery with sweaty hands. Changed it out to a type that wasn't.

    Gloves suck.

    1. Even dumber tan lines that you can't hide.
    2. Only time I ever have numbness in my hands is with gloves.
    3. Less grip.
    4. They're hot. I live where its 90 degrees and 100% humidity in the summer. Let's not exacerbate things.

All the "functions" they perform for me are pains in the ass.

Yep, but instead of YOUR skin shredding the glove does, unless it's that big a wipe out that it chews through your gloves THEN your skin.

Having lost a good portion of my left palm skin to road rash as a teenager I now wear gloves. It screwed up my whole summer, couldn't do much without risking infection, splitting it open again or just hurting like hell.

Oh, and I wear them for sun protection as well, rather than slathering the backs of my hands in SPF 50 I just wear gloves.

Most importantly...does Trek make good gloves?
Please don't call them "brifters", that just sounds stupid. Really.
