    First fall

Do you remember your first fall?

After road biking for 4 months I was finally able to get on clip less pedals for the first time (broke big right toe last year so Doc recomm cycling with tennis shoes).. boy did I fall silly..twice. Once at a stop sign & at a traffic light. I laughed so hard coz I could not believe I still fell after unclipping one leg!

Of course I do. I was on my fixie back in '62 and I failed to negotiate a T-intersection and ended up in someone's front yard.

Of course, that was a fixed-gear tricycle; I was two years old and I was scared to death because my evil older sisters had convinced me that the woman who lived in the house was a witch.

Hammering along a bit as I was late, went round a sharp right-hander at almost full tilt. While still pedaling... Needless to say, major pedal strike saw that I crashed out well and truly, which (much to my consternation) resulted in a bent shifter, scratches/gouges in various things and a slightly buckled wheel.

Unsurprisingly, I've never done the same again
    Distinctly mediocre.

The first one I remember clearly was when I was about 10 years old, and ended up crashing high speed into a rose bush--didn't navigate the turn into our driveway properly
The second that stands out was a head-over-bike-over-head mountain biking spill on a fast descent that resulted in a dislocated shoulder, about 20 years ago.
I'm currently about a year and a half into road cycling, and am about to switch to clipless--haven't fallen yet using platforms/straps, so we'll see how clipless goes!

'Taint no feeling like the slo-mo "timberrrrrr!" that is falling over while clipped in. Did it twice in one day this summer.

Have not yet truly crashed road biking and really don't want to. A prior head injury has me highly advised against ever doing THAT again. I take the downhills a "bit" easy but still top 40 mph at times soooo....
Every time that wheel turn 'round,
Bound to cover just a little more ground!

Good luck with clipless. For me it seems like when i lost focus and let my mind wander is when i forgot one leg was still cliped.

I'm a relative newb at road cycling and as I say, about to go to clipless, having been riding platforms with straps. I'm so hyper-aware/paranoid about it, that I haven't fallen once with this rig--I actually pull my foot out of the strap way in advance of a stop and just pedal with the strap hanging down briefly, and sometimes I'll pull both out if it looks sketchy up ahead. I'm thinking of going with something like A530's so I can in theory use the same approach with clipless, even to the extent of riding on the platform side in slow moving traffic, areas where I need to stop a lot etc. I understand lotsa folks use those pedals that way.
It's funny, I have several friends who are hardcore roadies with high-end bikes, have been riding for decades, all are clipless of course, and they all claim to never have fallen as a result of not clipping out in time for a stop (though they've had a crash or two for other reasons).
