Cannondale Synapse Carbon worth it?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cannondale Synapse Carbon worth it?

Hello,

I can buy a 2013 Cannondale Synapse Carbon 105 for $1200. It was returned to LBS due to sizing issues and has a few scratches, but otherwise in almost new condition.

Is it worth it?

Let me know.

Thanks.

I've had good luck with the 2012 version. Does it retain the warranty?

MSRP is $2330.00 so if you can get the full warranty in your name then yes i woulod say it's a good deal....that is a nice bike but for me the warranty on the Carbon bike would be the deal breaker....

No warranty, unfortunately. Are carbon bikes unreliable in terms of longevity?

So is this a poor deal then? What is the likelihood of a carbon bike breaking down and needing to use the warranty within the first 5 years?

I would go for it if you like the bike and it fits....be careful with the bike and it will be fine.

basically it is possible that the bike was crashed or the frame damaged and you really can;t tell if there is a structural issue. If the frame is fine, you get a great deal, if the bike has been crashed or frame damaged, you may need to replace it. All you can do is carefully examine the bike/frame, or have a professional check it out and try to decide based on what you see

if you decide to get it, or any other new bike be sure to update...best wishes. If warranty is a real concern Performance bike has some carbon bikes with 105 for your price range.

If it had been crashed, there would be evidence of same. If the bike has a few minor scratches, that isn't evidence of a crash, per se. Why not get the details from the LBS and call the old owner to have a yarn with him / her to determine the past history of the bike? For that pice, it is a decent buy.

I'm sure, also, that you can negotiate some kind of after-sales support with the LBS if anything goes awry.

cheers

the bottom line is it's your decision...the price is certainly right...If you feel right about the bike get it...It is a good deal.

Why not? It was returned to the shop, i am surmising, because of a misfitted bike.

You'd really be the original owner.

And like anything else, if you take care of it, it will last a long time. Well past the point where you will want a new bike.

I would challenge that warranty deal.
