How many miles do you have on your carbon frame?
Do carbon frames really have a shelf life? Or will they last as long as they aren't crashed?
Mine isn't too old. I've put about 6k on it. Original owner put maybe 1-2k. The frame still seems fine from what I can tell. Just a few cosmetic nicks and dings on the finish.
Anyone have a carbon frame that's old with a lot of miles?

My cevelo slc had 16k+ before i sold it and hes probably put 2k on it

I met a fellow here in town, he's got an 06 or 7 spec roubaix with 21k miles on it all original.

I have a '00 Trek 5200 that probably has 20,000 on the frame. The paint is in terrible shape but that frame is bombproof. I'm probably going to rattlecan it and build it back up as a winter training/beater bike.

I have 2009 Roubaix Pro 21,000 on it There is very little in the way of scratches or other cosmetic issues, otherwise the frame is just as good as new.
My previous bike was a Cannondale R400 that had 15,000 miles on it, and it was far worse for the wear than the carbon Roubaix.

how do you guys feel about some of those early alu. lugged, carbon tubed treks? i see them pop up on craigslist on occasion. i always thought it would be a fun novelty cruiser for a sunday afternoon.

I've heard that very early ones had issues with the bond between the lugs and tubes, but that is just hearsay. I have no first hand experience with them.

Only lugged carbon I'd get would be from TIME, LOOK and Colnago....all others are not worthy

I picked my CF bike today and put 35 miles on it but, it is a Trek so I am guessing that it is going to asplode around 50 miles.

I've got about 20k on my Fuji. When the carbon begins to delaminate from exposure to sun or water, I just wrap it in duct tape...

500 miles! On a BMC I bought last December! But I still ride with the Alu Mavics that came with it, can't bring myself to trash the carbon rings I immediately bought as a upgrade, mainly due to all the asplode stuff you guys keep talking about.
(BTW I have during this time logged several thousand on my trusted steelie and Alu bikes, in case you guys think I'm wussy and stuff)

2006 Specialized Roubaix, 38K+ miles on the frame. No issues with it, some minor cosmetic issues that have nothing to do with the age or mileage.

I've seen a couple of the old lugged CF frames have problems with the bonds, but that was when they were still quite new. I think if they've lasted this long without an issue, the frame's bonds will continue to hold up.

Not sure about mileage but I suspect my 2004 has more than 30K on it. A few years ago Calfee had a story of one of their carbon frames that had over 120,000 on it and it still performed like the day it was made.
