Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is this a good donor bike, or what!?!?

Let's get the obvious answers out the way ...
Yes!! Its a Condor
and
Yes!! its sold through Ebay|BD|Bikewarehouse

But as a donor bike ... I just don't think you will find a better launch-pad for your custom bike. And to make it sweeter, its just $1200 US. Now unless someone out there is making pirated Shimano components .... that is one great deal!

Yes, it is a good bike.

It is not an excellent bike. But you will have a hard time finding an Ultegra bike with quality stem/seatpost and Mavic Aksium hubs/rims for that price. The hydroformed aluminum frame is you run of the mill mass produced Taiwan frame. Like any other Trek or Specialized. Not great, mind you, but very good. The bike will be light with that kit hanging on it.

It has a full Ultegra driveline, crank and bb, rd/fd and shifters. That's nice. They didn't skimp on the chainset and give some ****ty FSA lump.

The brakes suck.
The tires will suck.
They have given you a carbon seat post and a Ritchey bar/stem. Nice. The seat will suck.
The pedals I have seen with BD bikes have been a pile of Wellgo junk.
You will likely change the saddle to something that fits your arse anyway, and who knows what pedals you use, so this is no issue.

Here's what you do. Buy that thing, ride the piss out of it. When you see a good set of ultegra calipers on Ebay, you buy them. Upgrade.

You get rid of those tires immed. The FSA headset will either go bad on its own or not, so don't worry there. The stem will likely be too short so find a Thomson X2on Ebay and snatch it up.

Once you have a complete, solid Ultegra bike, you're set. Ride on, Leon. If you feel like you want an upgrade you could hang ALL of that quality kit on any 1,500 dollar frame for sale on Ebay right now.

So my advice, yes. You'll hardly find this much bang for the buck, if this is your sweet spot, grab it. If you feel the need, buy a Pinarello or BMC or De Rosa frame for 1200 dollars on Ebay and swap your stuff over in 2 hours and have a race-ready bike beyond any serious reproach.

You will have to essentially rebuild this bicycle. There won't be any grease on any bolt anywhere. Not a huge deal. You'll have to check your bottom bracket for being too loose or too tight. Easy. Headset will have to be adjusted, again, no sweat, videos on Youtube. Check the hubs and adjust your derailleurs/brakes. Nothing special here. Just be aware you need to a competent wrench for an hour or so.

Here's a comparison:

Specialized 2012 Allez Comp 105 Road Race Bike

List: $1,749.99
Erik’s Low Price: $1,199.99

And that's an similar Aluminum frame a 105 kit with a ****ty Tiagra chain, not as nice wheelset and no-name proprietary bars/stem/seatpost of the same quality as that Ritchey stuff. The frame has an intergrated bottom bracket, maybe BB30, I'd rather have the hollowtech II that the BD bike has. Frames probably made next to each other although yours maybe last years. I've had to put the tune on a couple of BD bikes and the components are real-deal Shimano. You can't beat these prices. There is no 'prestige' in the Condor brand but there's only a little more 'prestige' in the Specialized brand.

I may be wrong, but I think you didn't completely understand OP's question. As I read it, he is asking whether this is a good DONOR bike, i.e. is it a good buy for obtaining most of the parts he needs to transfer to a frame of his own choosing to obtain a custom bike at reduced cost. I think the answer is yes, but as you point out, a there are several parts from the bike which just won't do for making something nicer and better. Among the outstanding questions are whether OP can sell the frame fork and unwanted parts and for how much. Not counting the wheels, I don't see getting more than maybe $250 by selling all the stuff you point out needs replacement including the generic frame and fork especially after ebay and Pay Pal fees. I see plenty of US-located 6800 groups on ebay delivered for less than $850. If I were he, I would compare the donor bike idea to starting from scratch and building up. I would want such a project to really be custom and not be forced into living with some second rate stuff I really didn't like but couldn't get any money out of. It really shouldn't cost much more to do it right.

Forgive me if I misunderstood, but it seemed to me you were telling him what he would have to do to ride the actual bike he was asking about. Yes way down at the end of your post you mention the possibility of moving the parts, but most of your comments are about upgrading and riding the supplied frame. You tell to ride the **** out of it. I don't think he wants to ride it at all. Just cannibalize it for parts. Sorry, not trying to be argumentative, that is just how it came off to me.

Yep, I agree that it's not a donor bike but a "ride it till it drops" bike - which I bet will be a long time from now.
