Anyone riding a 48cm Cannondale?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone riding a 48cm Cannondale?

I need a short TT, preferably less than 51mm and it appears that some Cannondale models in a 48 (or even a women's' 44) may fit the bill. Wondering how the small carbon Cannondale frames may be working for you?

Thanks,
Steve

Back when she got out of college, my wife bought a Cannondale. I can't remember if it was a 48, or maybe a bit smaller (she's about 5'-0"). It was, hands down, the most uncomfortable bike I have ever ridden. It was incredibly stiff and transmitted every little road imperfection directly up to the bars and saddle. My wife said in those days she did most of her riding out of the saddle (she was in much better shape then). Of course this was back in the late 80s when the seat tube on 'dales was aluminum and looked strangely like a long beer can (espacially on the really small frame sizes).

I believe you. Back at the very same time I had a 50cm 'dale and it rode like it was made of cement. However a lot has changed since them with Cannondale's aluminum and especially carbon. I'll be looking for a '11-13 carbon for sure.

My junior races a 44cm SuperX and loves it. It's easy to fit a small rider to it, super light and quite fast.

I'm 5'2" riding a 505-510cm effective TT.

My sister had a 48cm CAAD5 (bought new when that was top of the line) and I used to ride it a bit. Nice bike. Race geometry. Stiff & twitchy. I've been looking at a 48cm SuperSix for myself, geometry looks good, I don't really need it though, so I haven't test-ridden it yet. Test rides tend to lead to purchases.

Scott makes really good little bikes, I'm on a 47cm CR1 (2011) same geometry as their new Solace model, I think they are still selling the CR1 as well. Those 2 models have short TTs compared to the head tube, so they are good for the long leg/short torso or higher-handlebar crowd. I race mine, it is not an upright cruiser position. I really like it, handles well, stable and comfortable but still fast and light. They make it in a 49 as well, if you are a little taller. The 47 does not have toe overlap, which is really unusual in such a small frame.

The Specialized Amira could work too - sister has one of those now, in 48, they make a 44 as well. It's a women's bike but it's not all pink or anything.

You should explore the concepts of reach and stack for bike size selection. Helps compare bikes with different seat and head angles. google for it, there's good articles on Slowtwitch.

Got a used CAAD 2 in great shape for $150 last spring for my 12-yo. Very nice bike, though finding extra 650 tubes for it was a bit of work.
