Look v Kestrel
Ok... so I'm still trying to pick out that first road bike... I was originally looking at Felt and Look. My LBS has a beautiful Look 586 with Ultegra and I can get a good deal on it. But I also like the Kestrel Legend SL Ultegra Di2. Thoughts on either? I don't know much about Kestrel, but both bikes will cost about the same and I can get Di2 if I go with Kestrel.

Go for the one that fits you better first. You can also upgrade components later, but a wrong size frame can quickly become expensive wall art. Both are great bikes, but since you're asking, FWIW, Look will have more pedigree or provenance due to its long participation at the WorldTour level, ie. the big Tours, TdF. If that kind of thing matters to you. OTOH, Kestrel is more of a triathlon specialist. The parent company, Advanced Sports, also owns Fuji bikes.

Like mpath said, get the one that fits but it's hard to find a Kestrel to try. Between the two as far as brand names, Look is a long established, first rate frame with lots of engineering going in the design. Kestrel (the newer name as opposed to the defunct company) is a clone with that label stuck on it. All things being equal in size, go with your LBS and get their expertise and help.

Thanks for the advice. I'm leaning towards the Look and will probably pull the trigger soon. I can always upgrade the group set later on. Even the Fuji dealer is a big fan of the Look. Now to get the old lady to loosen the purse strings...
