Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Dutch-style bikes are very popular - my wife would love the way this bike looks.

Fair enough no argument about taste-I don't find it UGLY- but it isn't eye catching either.
But $11,000 ???
Any chance your wife will insist that would be a great XMas present?

My old LBS had trouble keeping Dutch-style of bikes in stock - they're clearly catching the eyes of many.

Do you think that they're aiming to be the Christmas present of choice for the average Joe/Jane? I don't. You don't find value in what it offers and neither do I, but that doesn't mean that someone that does purchase it is a fool or a sucker (BTW, Barnum didn't say either of those).

Maybe it's my US attitude, but I finnd their co-opting of the hipster culture is tasteless... that's on top of making a full carbon, cost-no-objective 24-lb bike, dutch city bike or not.

The French luxury brand will release two styles crafted from ultra-lightweight carbon filter, each weighing just over 24lbs and available in three colors: charcoal, red, and white.

At least for me, the vibe of it smacks of that... even though i know their target market is decidedly not that segment, but still, it's for the cool kids (with means)

If anything, this is anti-hipster. First, we have to define "hipster" but I doubt the conventional definition is attracted to Hermes or a lux-label like that. This is just part of the mainstream trend of cycling into fashion culture. For example, look at the latest Marc Jacobs lookbook:
https://www.marcjacobs.com/look/detai...43/bamboo-bike

The reality is that cycling, apart from its growing mass-market appeal, also has the individualistic status symbol appeal that things such as fashion or other consumer goods have.

Some people find value in driving Bentley's, wearing $250 ties, or living in $20M homes.

The only criticism is that the bike costs $11,000 but that is only a value problem if one does not see the value in the item or does not have $11,000.

I think people just associate hipsters, with fixed gears/single speeds.
Hipsters will not be able to afford this bike ever.

Maybe I am missing something here but a 24 lb. beach cruising look alike bike made of carbon fiber because I assume filter was a typo for $11K**********? Yeah, that will sell just great! I am seriously not trying to be a smartass here but are they serious about the price at $11k for a bike that at most should be $600 if really made of carbon!
