Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

$35.00 buck's!, I paid $53.94 out the door for the black but it's a cheap price to pay to not get T-Boned by another cyclist or the sudden car door opening. $53.94 to protect my bike investment, it's a smart purchase imo.

I read too many horror stories on the 41, the fear mongering made me buy it .

I ordered three- two black and one raw. My roadie, my MTB, and my GF's roadie. Expensive for bells, but I do stupid stuff from time to time.

The problem with "On Your Left" is the by the time they hear you, they just hear "....Left" so they instinctively jump to their left, right on my path. The best is for them to stay on their own course, I will go around them. The bell just makes them aware that I'm coming and won't startle them.

Not a bell person here, but, I must say, that is a handsome bell. As someone that loves the modern/contemporary/clean aesthetic of brushed stainless steel in almost any appplication, if I were to buy one, I could buy that one.

I have a Incredibell on my gravel path/MUP bike. It's much more effective (easier to hear, easier to understand meaning) than yelling left at people at the path. People seem to like the chime of the bell better than yelling anyway. IMO, if you're going to ride on a MUP, a bell is a necessity.

I don't have one on my road bike, not needed.

I have the following ($8):

https://www.amazon.com/Dimension-Headset-Spacer-Bell-Black/dp/B007SVLVR0

I like having it. It's very descrete.

(Though, the spring that the ringer is mounted on broke on the first one I had.)

A lot of the clamps won't handle over-sized bars. 31.7.
I wouldn't mind a black one for around $10 with an oversized clamp.
Anyone have products/links?

Uhhhhh, no I can't say I do! I know the reason you have one but I find a yell out to do just fine. I do ride with a Knog rear light for approaching cagers.

Okay...

The TX traffic laws allow bicyclists to ride two abreast (something that cars aren't really able to do).

Yet, riders do often pass other riders on the right. That is, common reality proves that this silly statement is wrong.

Now, maybe you really mean to argue that it's unsafe.

Of course it's unsafe.
Passing only on the left isn't an arbitrary fabrication of DOT bureaucrats. It's the most predictable and safest way for traffic to behave, motorized or not. That trumps the common reality that some people ride without a regard for others; by "not done" I didn't mean that no one does it but that doing so would lack both common courtesy and common sense.

No, not necessarily. Actually, it depends.

This is silly. That people do it does not necessarily mean that there's a lack of anything. Again, it depends.

As a general rule, it makes sense to avoid doing it. But that doesn't mean that there are never anytimes when it's reasonable to do.

Clearly, you have a limited amount of experience.

Anyway, back to the OP, I just went on a ride in my neighborhood loop, and there were multiple instances when a bell could have been useful.

Seems that you want to turn this little side discussion into something ambiguous, protracted and pointless.
No thanks.

BTW: "Clearly..." You have no idea, and I don't do pis_ing contests.

Now, back to "Dingggg...."

I used to have a bell then it broke and I have been without since. I can tell you on more then one occasion a bell would have been very useful. I find when you yell out people get scared and jump right in my direction (seniors mostly). I've had my eye on that bell in black so it goes unnoticed on my carbon drop bar.

I have one but it's like the horn on my motorbike. By the time I remember I have one and where the button is, the moment has passed.

Can't win. Rang my bell to warn a couple, guy asked, "why didn't you just call out, on your left"?

The bells are really handy when sharing a MUP with people who don't understand English or who don't understand Slower Traffic Stays Right.
It gets hard to keep a non-confrontationl tone yelling "Passing on your left" around people with poor etiquette.
The bell always sounds cheerful and gets the point across that a bike is approaching.

I have a brass bell mounted in place of a spacer on the headtube on my nice road bike.
It's not exactly at my fingertips, but it is easy enough to use and leaves room for all the other doodads that need to be on the stem and handlebars.
I do like the OP's stainless steel bell. Very sleek and simple. I'd consider upgrading my bell to it and putting the brass bell on my backup bike.
The bell pepper is awesome in its own way.
