Any one have a bell?
I just bought a bell for my bike. I have to admit it was an impulse buy and its a really cool machined bell that I had to pre order. I am more of a yell out "on your left" kinda guy but being a gadget guy I had to have it. Back in my machinist days I would have made one but now I must buy this kind of stuff. I just wondered how many in the 41 use a bell?

I hate to admit it because I know of its 'fredliness' but I keep one hidden completely inconspicuous on my right rear seat stay just under the saddle where no one will ever notice it's tackiness. It took forever for the owner of a LBS to notice it and when he finally did he gave me kind of a mocking, "Nice One". I'm not much of a yeller, though, so it beats slowing to a near hault and giving people a heart attack or trying to make noise by backpedaling and then slamming the pedals forward over and over.. :shrug:

I enjoy striking a clear friendly tone from my brass bell as riders approach and when overtaking others.
It's a sociological experiment as well, a scowl or a grin are the inevitable result of "Dinggggg..."
Apparently some consider a simple bicycle ride an epic struggle not suited to comic interludes, others I would ride with.
The Ultimate Bell, is the Crane Brass model. It's clear ringing tone is the straight block/disc wheel/funny bike of bells.
I have them all my bikes from the CF Merckyx to my International.

I pre ordered it on Spurcycle.com. Delivery in January. I have been up and down with the bell idea and decided it was an interesting design and unique.

Been thinking of getting one myself. with everyone wearing ear buds, sometimes they don't here a shout out but when I ride with people with a bell, everyone seems to here it.

It's ever so slightly larger than that Spurcycle and maybe ever so slightly quieter judging from their video (just went and rang my eBay cheapo to compare) but it always turns heads when I need it to.
It comes with two plastic 'straps' that remind me of a super cheap wrist watch band that you can insert or remove to make usable with many different sizes of bars. I removed both straps and the bell fit my Scott Speedster's seat stay just fine.

Would've loved a brass or copper crane but they don't have one that fits 31.8 handlebars. Ended up with this one

Pathetic is your comment. Just an FYI, your approval was not sought or needed. Having manufactured lots of interesting gadgets for rich people over the years I thought it was a nice piece of handy work. Had nothing to do with *****exuality. I ride with a bell on my commuter/gravel grinder,I have it hidden on my stem behind my phone mount, most people so even see it.
Not on my road bikes. I just prefer yelling in lycra!

Yep, thought that one could be kinda cool, at a price. But I also have a cheap bell kinda hidden on my stem already. Now to just get rid of the rat traps...

I have to say I am not a bell kind of person, but I support the use. I do ride (not too often) fire roads, in Montana, with a friend of mine who has two bear bells attached to the seat rails....constant noise. He states that he has had too many close calls to ride "silent". So if the bells help, who is to argue... ring on .

Always thought a low-profile bell would be cool on the MTB (hikers) and now that I think about it, on the road bike too. This one isn't cheap but is small, made well, and I guess it fits on the headtube...does it?

Some areas require bells (even on road bikes) so this is a very nice looking unit that even the fussiest bike snob could like.
In one part of Australia that I regularly ride it is not uncommon for the police (regular or bike squad) to add an additional fine to someone for not having a bell if they 'fail the attitude test' after being stopped for another reason.
