Any one have a bell?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Definitely. Bells work better than yelling.

But they almost always require mcgyvering to fit any reasonably modern road bike.

My $2 Bell bell fits on my stem fine, I just make sure its tight before I ride.
I make sure I put the strap backwards so when I use it, it keeps the strap tight rather than loosen it if I put it on the right way.
You can't cut a piece of an old tube to place in between the strap, & your stem so it doesn't slip. (My bell came with a little rubber piece.)

I've been thinking I will probably get one for my roadie, aint no way i'm calling out "on your left" every freakin time! And sometimes it gets people to move left! Screw that, i'm there to exercise not to be yelling at people.

I figure its against the "roadie bible" so i have to fit it in a discreet way

That's pretty neat, only wish the bells were black. 1 1/8" should work great - will have to give it a shot!

Anyone have products/links?

If you have a spacer on the top of your fork, remove it and replace it with an aluminum one. Drill and tap a hole and screw a bell into it.

I've seen this in action as part of a clutch of pedestrians. My kid goes to a bike-friendly college which is visited several times a year by parents who act as if they've never seen a bike. What usually happens is the cyclist rings a bell and/or shouts "On your left" and the walkers freeze in place while they try to recall which side is left. At least they are stationary and the rider can then go around them.

I have a bell on my gravel road bike. It has a picture of bambi on it. Right on the stem. I put it on there when I was commuting, don't really remember what prompted it. I find that people don't like it when you use it to warn them, I guess they prefer to be scared out of their wits when you pass them silently.

I have one of those Spurcycle bells on the way also. I'd been tossing around the idea of getting one for a while, and when I saw the ad for that one, I was instantly sold.

Every time I've said "on your left" the person has either freaked the eff out, or moved towards the left. Seriously, not a single person moved correctly. Heck, it'd be better if they just stay put most times! ... I do live in Floriduh though.

Hopefully the bell will garner better reactions. At the very least, it'll be great for heckling other riders on fast group rides.

It depends on the local situation I guess. About half the people I ring at either acknowledge with a wave or say thank you as I go by. On the other hand I've heard a few mouthing off - we can't please everybody.

Have a big one on my cruiser. I'm much more likely to be around joggers and whatnot when riding that bike. On my roadie I use the unofficial Campy "bell" of flicking the paddle shifter against the body of the shifter but a bell would be cool. Some of the ones in this thread are nice.

I recently picked up an Incredibell Adjustabell 2 in black. I really liked the Spurcycle bell, but this was just under 1/3 of the price, and it works well.

damn it, I was about to order the black one, but I don't want to wait weeks.

why are they taking so long? How hard can it be to manufacture a bell? yes yes yes demand is probably out weighing supply

BUMMER....I just got this on my email.

We would like to update you on your order status. Bell orders placed via Spurcycle.com were expected to ship late January, then February and March. The demand has been tremendous. Additionally, there have been some delays as we work carefully through first production. Bell parts have just started to arrive following weeks of manufacturing. Assembly will begin before the end of the month here at Spurcycle HQ. We have 6,000 Kickstarter backers to satisfy first and then shipments on Spurcycle.com orders will begin.

We would like to let everyone know that we will process orders as they were placed, but that you can expect some shipment later than originally estimated. You can see details of production in our most recent Kickstarter update. Please put March 21st, the first day of Spring, on your calendar as our new estimated ship date.

Of course, we understand this is a significant adjustment. We are happy to cancel your order if you’d rather not wait. Please note, however, that these bells represent a limited production run. It is not certain when they can be made widely available, and it is likely the price will increase given the cost to make them. A Pre-Order is the best way to guarantee you will get one—a product that has been coveted worldwide since being revealed on Kickstarter last year.

Please let us know if you have further questions.

Thank you.

I got one from eBay too ($7.15 shipped). I'll use it until I get my spurcycle bell. If this bell sucks, I blame you! lol
