for racers here: do you think a UCI sanctioned race would pull me out if I had one of these on my bike?

++ Me too. "onomatopoeia" I never ride w/o it: "Ding! Ding"
#105
my nice bike is at home
Hell Ya I have a bell! on every one of my 7 bikes. I live in NYC where there are 156 different languages spoken, and the "DING" of a bell is pretty much a globally understood concept. I am surprised when in a pack of Lycra-clad roadies and not one of them has a bell when riding in crowded Central/Prospect Park. I think they are also surprised when i ding the bell at some imminent danger. A bell is good thing to have, at the very least it can add humor to your day.

Yes I ordered the ridiculous spurcycle bell too. I think bells are highly useful for any kind of urban riding and that bell just seems like the neatest and discreetest. I have alloy bars so I ordered the "bare" version.
I have the brass made in Japan Crane bells with the big thumb dinger on my cruiser and xtracycle. Best sustain out there!
Until the spurcycle bell arrives (March? WTF?) I'm running a small $7 incredibell on my fast roadie. It's a little anemic but does the job.
Yes a cheery "ding" of the bell seems more polite and universally recognized than "on your left"

haha..I was riding up the west-side of Manhattan last Saturday and as you are well aware that path is a good mixture of cyclists and pedestrians. Oddly enough I was the only person with a bell, my friends gave me a dirty look but saying "on the left" in that environment does more harm than good.
My bell was somewhat anemic, the minute that I got home I ordered "spurcycle bell". I can't wait for it to get here spring

I also just ordered one of these ridiculous things too. The website says "Spring Delivery". In the meantime I'll get by with my brass Crane on my commuter, and my chrome Crane on my FG.

I wondered if a spurcycle bell would "ding" by itself when the rider hit a bump if it's mounted horizontally, since the striker is above the bell.
I can maybe fit this right next to my bike computer, facing forward like you did.

Its machined from aluminium. Black requires the additional step of powdercoating or anodising.
I have found the Crane bell excellent for volume but the pitch is a lot lower than typical rinky dink bike bells, to the extent that where I ride some pedestrians seem to ignore it or think its further away perhaps. Tinkly bells make them jump to attention more!
For my next bell I want one of these:

Even though it is $10 more I still went ahead and ordered it. I want it to blend in with mostly all black bike. It just sucks that I have to wait until "spring" for it.

Nope. Only if you never ride in the drops. Campagnolo has a thumb shifter right above the bell.
I did see that they are shipping with two straps, and one is long enough to fit around the steerer spacers or many stems. That would work.

From their kickstarter blog, they had to redesign some components, and reject some out of spec parts. It's an interesting story. Manufacturing thousands of bells is different than prototyping a handful of them.

Just cancelled my Order. Delivery in January is what I signed on for when I ordered it in December. March is just a tad to far from that date and lousy way to start out for sure.

Just placed my preorder and have no problem waiting for a quality "MADE IN USA" product! After working most of my life in the automotive industry, I completely understand how manufacturing holdups happen. You will get it rolling Spurcycle and be successful

I do not have one, but I really should get one. Yelling is just generally viewed as being unfriendly, and on some of my routes I share the road with people that are walking. I do not care about its "fredliness". Though I will get one that is easy to hide, just because I care about bike aesthetics and would like my bike to keep its clean look.

Lots of great uses for a bicycle bell. They work!
