Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

CAAD5 R2000 si used pricing help

Looking at a local CAAD5 R2000 si which I believe is from 2002/2001 and wondering what a fair price would be if it is in good condition. The specs are here (basically full ultegra + triple crank but picture has a double instead??): https://web.archive.org/web/200610152...el-2RR2KT.html

Want to upgrade from my Univega Competizoine to a more modern road bike mainly for STI. How does 2002/2001 ultegra compare to today's 105/ultegra? The seller is asking for $650 which feels like a high price for a 10+ year bike?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks! I got this: https://www.bicyclebluebook.com/Searc...x=20000&type=1 as the only result but the color shown and color description don't match and some components like wheelset, handlebars don't match either. :/

Just takes a little searching, here it is https://www.bicyclebluebook.com/Searc...x=20000&type=0

The asking price is a bit much in my opinion. If you have $650 to spend you can get a newer bike with newer comps. You could probably get a CAAD9 honestly. There are used CAAD10's on ebay for less than 1K.

OP if you are a size 51 or 54 ^^ that is a nice buy.

Here is one even cheaper with more sizes available.

It's a little more than $650 but it's a new bike with a warranty and great customer support. You can also just return it if you don't like it.

Ah thanks everyone! I ride 50-52 so that first one might be good. A little bit above what I want to spend, so perhaps waiting might be a good idea? Might not buy yet, but I wouldn't mind you referring me if it helps you.

In general, looking at "Completed listings" on Ebay for actual prices paid can sometimes be useful if you can find a similar item.
