Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Weather

Wooo hoooo!

It's 70 degrees and sunny outside here in southeastern NC. I'm headed out right now for a good 2-3 hour spin. I wonder if I'll get tan lines?(te he!)

How's your weather today? How did your ride go today?

In my best "radio voice"...

"It's 7 AM on this lovely Sunday morning in the city of Rivers, currently 50 sunny degrees heading up once again to that magical 70 degree mark. So why not grab grandma and the kids and head on down to Champoeg park for the 10th annual Ho-Going-Down Days festival, now through the end of the week. Get yourself a couple chili cheesers with extra onions to make you feel oh so right and take a shot at winning your honey a 75 cent stuffed animal for less than 10 bucks. Next up here on the BUZZ as we spin our way to noon is the latest from Bob Dylan - 'What Language Do You Think I'm Speaking?"

I ain't riding today - - more hard labor yard work for me.

Yesterday I rode in 30 m/h winds @ around 30 degrees F. Today, the wind isn't as bad yet, but the temps will remain right around the freezing mark. I can't wait to get out!

We'll miss the cold when it's gone!

23 in West Michigan, and the roads are still icy, and from the weather forecast, they'll be staying that way for a while. Humph.

Well its 38 degrees and sunny here in Trenton, New Jersey and I rode into work today, AND had a flat!!!
As luck would have it I happened to be riding right along the bus route and just threw my bike on the bike rack on the bus and took it the last 2 miles into work and changed the tire at the office. Now I can, at least ride home when the temperature is in the mid 40s. Woo hoooo!!

12-15 inches of new snow here in Central Massachusetts! I'm almost willing to spearhead a "Northeast cyclists go SOUTH" road trip. Man, we are dying up here. I have no problem with hammering on my trainer, but I am starting to go nuts. Maybe you guys/gals down south will consider adopting us for a weekend

Oh, yes, enjoy the ride!

Gosh it's hot...think it was 83 degrees yesterday. Owing to excessive time at rest stops, exploring skinny county roads, and three flats, we only got 67 miles. Cooler today. I have an e-mail out looking for a tandem partner for this afternoon.

It really felt like the first ride of the Spring, though I did do the FWBA Dill Road Adventure ride (the 68 mile version, I was sick all winter, and I just can't do 100 miles yet) last weekend. Out with the guys, dancing up all the hills, rotating paceline into the 25mph wind out of the SW, it was great to pick up all those old habits again. Late start for me, but it could be a good year.

Yesterday in N.East Scotland 30 degrees F with a 25mph NW wind. Cold but you soon get warmed up fighting that wind. Very similar today.

Supposed to be around 70 today I think here in willamette valey of Oregon. Unfortunately I have too much yard work to get out again today.. And just my luck it looks like it will be raining just in time for my bike to be done. Thats okay though, cause we've gotten the yearly rainfall of like Pheonix this year.

Just got in. Did about 34 miles solo. It was about 70 degrees when I started at 10:30 am...and had to be at least 75 when I was finished around 12:30pm. this was my first ride of the year with exposed arms and legs. Man I feel great! Also...I am surprised how good I felt out there today. I can see that the time spent on the trainer recently has really made a difference. The last 12 miles was in a strong headwind. It was like doing squats on the bike for about 30 minutes.

It's nice to know that we are nearly half way through March..and there are many more days like this one to come. First race is April 30th. Gotta get busy! My new Trek is performing flawlessly. I am really enjoying this bike. Carbon is sweeeeeeeet!

Thanks for listening! I hope the weather turns soon for all you fine folks up there in the north and northeast! Hang in there...spring is near!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Time to crank up the trainer miles until mother nature lets you out of the house. Sooner than later I'm sure.

Fabulous day for riding here in NC today. I wore too much clothing - as it quickly warmed into the 60s, and I'm guessing it gets close to 70 today, forecast is 62. Rode a LBS 25 mile group ride today, bookended by solo ride to and from the start - for a total of 40 on the dot.

Note to self: Take the keys when you ride to the start. Family left while I was out - and I arrived home locked out and sweaty.

30 degrees in sunny Ottawa. Snow everywhere (and deep), ice on most side streets, stones and salt galore. Looks like it will be an excellent pothole and frost heave season. I doubt I will get my nice bike on the road for at least a month to 6 weeks and my old bike for 2 or 3.

My ride today was great. Spinning class and hating every one these days.

Had 5"+ of snow yesterday morning, but the roads were clear and dry.

It was 38 when I left this morning from Brooklyn, and was finally warm enough to take in a long ride on my new bike. I did about 60 miles to northern NJ and back. There were a few wet spots, but that was it. There were lots of riders going across the GWB, all of the scheduled Saturday rides were put off until today.

You guys come on down. Did a group ride of just 20 or so miles this afternoon, about 75 degrees, nice breeze going. The jasmine and pear trees are blooming and smelled mighty sweet. Spring has sprung, I think! That's what I like about the South.

8 days til Spring!!

As soon as I finish shoveling the snow from my driveway (again), get my garage door unstuck from the ice, and thaw out my hands...... I think I'll take a spinning class and pretend I'm somewhere pleasant.

P.S. Not to rub it in, but I just noticed that I have a sunburned nose. So spring is really, truly here and I hope it gets to everybody else really soon!

Today was 36* and snowing in the morning. Later in the day it stopped and warmed up a little. Roads started melting. All the cycling I did today was on my couch watching the end of Paris-Nice...

We've had very nice weather here in central Georgia this weekend. The only issue we've had is the WIND. It was pretty brutal this weekend. Yesterday I went out alone to ride and ended up cutting it short. I couldn't deal with the 25 - 35 mph (according to weather.com) gusts we were having. Today was much better. Donna and I went out early this morning for an hour spin and were able to deal with the < 15 mph winds we had today. I'm already starting to get a nice farmer tan going
