Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Crap. I just pulled my SS out for a possible trail ride tomorrow afternoon, and I see somehow it has a broken spoke in back.

I suppose in the grand scheme of things it's a minor bump in the road.

...if it's flip flop, flop it to fixed and ride brakeless. Should be fine unless you're one of those "everything should work as designed" guys.

Not necessarily. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assiste...#United_States. I guess it depends upon how far gone you are.

Personally, I believe yes. I want nothing to do with being that sort of sick. Or vegetative.

Just being philosophical but... our laws, perhaps our society, seem based upon the concept that one must be insane to seek an end of life, and the insane must be protected. No sane person would ask another to end their life, so the request must be invalid, and the killer is a murderer. There is no room for a person to have clarity in their own end. To me, it becomes like asking an alcoholic to tell you if you have a drinking problem. They only see their own perspective, and no room for others.

...probably the best argument for physician assisted end of the road. Certainly these are all very compelling.
Fortunately for me, when I was sick enough to want to, I was too sick to accomplish it. Also fortunately for me, I recovered.

Most folks i know would just like the option of leaving without complicating the lives of their survivors. As would I.

The old drive train was so worn out that the front chainring was past sharktooth and you could literally feel the drive train rumble as you pedal.

I can't keep up with this thread...but yep, I believe Carvers is known for their butter burgers. That's the only place I've had one, but that was years ago. I try not to eat much fast food these days...maybe In-N-Out on a rare occasion.

I love burgers, but I'm more the "make it at home" kind of guy. I like to add in some hot sauce and blue cheese to the patties, grill it with a slice of cheddar on top, then add bacon, onions, lettuce, pickles, ketchup, mustard, mayo, and bbq sauce and you've got one tasty burger. I'm sure it's no better for you than one slapped between a donut, but I'll pretend it is.

That's me except that I don't like tomatoes and lettuce on my burgers.

So I extricated my rear wheel off the SS, the one with the broken spoke.

It was a bit of a hassle as I have full fenders and the bike has track dropouts. I had to nearly remove the rear fender to get enough clearance.

Note to self: full rear fender not ideal with track style dropouts. Live and learn.

Personally I think fenders are evil, but the sks ones you mount to the seat post work great.

I should try those, but for now I have these Planet Bike fenders. I think they are called "Freddy Fenders."

How appropriate.

One of the most fun rides I had was my commute home right after a heavy rain. The roads were soaking wet but the fenders kept me dry. I felt like a little kid splashing in the puddles.

You will be extremely stretched over the front. Wider the bar, shorter the stem.

Good to know. The surly won't fit traditional fenders, it doesn't have the mounts.
