Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I just switched to T-Mobile yesterday. Changed to Android after 5 yrs with an iPhone. I love it. Faster, and Google Play all Access is phenomenal.

I will stick with Apple for my computers however. Love the MacBook and the iMac

Might have. Depends on the context. If it's going to be mostly stationary and mostly work, there's probably not a lot of benefit. If it's more mobile and sees some (or a lot of) casual use, it makes more sense.

The thing that rubs me is that every ecosystem tries their damnedest to lock you in and make it hard to leave. Everybody has their streaming service, everyone has their cloud services, everyone has their mail services - for the most part I refuse to be too invested in them because it makes it tougher to move when you want to.

Most of my apps were free, so I just downloaded the Android versions. Apple's streaming service sucks, and I've been a Chrome user over Safari for years. The Android/Chrome integration was just too seamless. And I had 25GB of music on my iPhone. Play converted it all and uploaded to the cloud. When I turned my new phone on, all of my music was there. The streaming service is another story. My feeling about it is that any music I really love, I'll still buy the download version or the CD. But for $10/month (which is less than what I'm saving with the T-mobile switch from ATT), All Access is a no brainer

Flying out to NYC on Thurs for a wedding over the weekend. While I'm there, I'm going to play a game called, "how many times can I eat at the restaurants that I miss?"

Agreed. For example, I've been planning to jump the Verizon/DSL ship for months now to go to cable for faster internet, but it's so time consuming to notify all your contacts of your new email address . . . I haven't got it done YET! What a PAIN!!!!!

today i adjusted the saddle position on the ladies bike and took it for a spin. to my surprise, it seemed to fit me very well. it felt very comfortable surprisingly. how can this S in ladies bike be comfy when i ride a 56 in a mens bike which would be a medium mens? well, since it fits, i can try climbing the tougher routes with the ladies bike since it has a triple.

As Hummer's other half posted again yet? Ramona jumped in in spades, but I think RUOkie pushed her with his visit. Just a hypothesis.

This phone talk reminds me of something rather amusing - a week-and-a-half ago, I dropped my phone on a concrete floor. It hit squarely on the corner where the headphone jack is and caused a sensor to think that there's a headphone/hands free set plugged in. This, of course, means that the onboard earpiece and mic don't work, essentially rendering it useless as a phone. Despite this, my usage habits haven't changed one iota. So much for phones being phones.

Same thing happened with me when I moved away from Cablevision. It's the main reason that I bought a domain with email (~$15 year).

What I've found is that, for the most part, I don't really miss any of the higher-end establishments. I can find good fine dining here. What I can't find is the little holes in the walls - the Mexican place that we used to eat at twice a week, the Dominican spot (infused with the smell of pernil) where I used to get killer sandwiches, the pizza place run by the old man that's been pounding out pies for 50 years. Those are the places that I miss.

May have to rent one of those hourly commuters bikes, too, just to take a spin around Prospect and/or Central Park.

Set up my ladies bike to fit me. With its triple, maybe it will be an easier climbing bike for me.

Aren't they the upright, straight bar, hybrid style bikes? I would feel so lame riding those.

Well I always had a feeling the poseur was strong in BillyD.

last weekend, i rode the commuter bike provided by the city. i rode it on the same mup that all my rides start on when i ride my own bike. i had no idea that those upright bikes were so massively less efficient than a nicely tuned road bike. i was really getting a good workout from a short distance.
