Happy New Addiction XXXI

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My company just officially announced our move to a new location... slightly closer to my home.

I'm debating commuting by bike.

16 miles of city traffic each way in one of the deadliest cities in one of the deadliest states of the country.

Yeah... I think this is going to be a "just do it and stop overthinking it" situation.

My 15 miles each way were a lot more fun when I could take more backroads to work, now that we moved office locations its just not as fun. Still, its an easy way to get in 30 miles each day. I'm hoping to start back up next week, I've been rather lazy the last month or so.

BTW does anyone know the name of the little springs that go on the QR skewer? I figure there is an official term.

Understood completely. Give it a shot, and if it doesn't pan out, or turns even more harrowing than just riding your bike, at least you gave it a shot.

What exactly is the point of the springs? I've had one missing for about 6 months now.

It just makes it easier to slip the wheel into the dropouts when the QR is open. Nothing more.

They keep the skewer and the nut pushed away from the dropouts. Makes for easier in/out.

The spring usually just gets in the way for me. In fact, thats why I'm missing one, it got stuck in the fort and bent to hell.

I see them stuck in forks quite a bit, usually when conical ones are on backwards- big side facing in.

You can go weight weenie and pitch the springs. Between all four, you can probably drop over a gram!!
