Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My wife is totally addicted to Korean Dramas. I tell her we already have enough Korean drama in our life (she is Korean) but she is really into them. Apparently no one does soap operas as well as they do.

Guaranteed.
If I was lost, the map wouldn't help her. You have to be fairly dense to get lost in the High Peaks, unless you want to be lost. My expectation was always injury, followed by death by exposure, if you must know. And I am certain that I would wish many things in that time between the two. But my point wasn't about me keeling over in the woods. My point was men and women look at safety and risk very differently, and what makes a woman nervous may never even occur to a man. That OP's husband may simply be in tune with her desired support. Sorry if my point was unclear.

So a patient of mine who is a runner comes in today for a visit.

He says he wants to ask my opinion about bikes. He wants to get one for fitness. He has a friend who told him he must spend $2500-3000 for a road bike.

I told him his friend is clueless and you can get a perfectly good entry level road bike for roughly $1K. Sure, it will have aluminum frame and CF fork, not all CF....and maybe tiagra/105 instead of ultegra, but what kind of a moran tells a newbie to buy a $3K bike??

It all depends on what they earn. If they are in the half-mill echelon, three grand is peanuts. If they earn under 50G, it might be a stretch.

Maybe. Even if you are swimming in dough, buy an entry level bike. If you get bitten by the bug, you can upgrade in a year and relegate the entry level to beater status. I would advise that even if you are filthy rich.

I think telenovelas are probably better for overall drama but, as @coasting was complaining about the other day, the guys in the Korean shows are so pretty. And their hair...

That should be no surprise. After all, last I heard the divorce rate was still around 50%.

I'm surprised by how much newbies spend on a bike. One chick in a thread hadn't ridden a bike in 10 years, wasn't sure she'd like it, and went out and dropped $1200 on a 2014 Dolce Elite Compact. Seriously? Why didn't she go to a co-op and spend a few hundred till she knew for sure?

Yeah. I can't get into them because she watches them via Korean sites which don't have subtitles. My Korean is pretty limited so it's too hard for me to follow.

Oh my god! I wasn't suggesting women should start invading man caves. I was trying to point out how he seemed to be allowing her so little physical or mental space while insisting on so much of his own.

She's a veterinarian. I am sure there is some link in there somewhere to the behaviours on both sides.

I dropped $280 on my Schwinn 26 years ago. I'm just now getting around to replacing it.

My Estrogen Den was a playful add on to Bill. My wife always says that our downstairs den is mine, and then she starts making suggestions (like kitchen cabinets so she won't see my stuff). My response is always "Man Cave not Woman Warren or Estrogen Den".

20 years, 1 month, 6 days. If I ever give the impression that I am displeased by that, then I am sending bad impressions. My wife improves me.
