That's crazy and cool at the same time!!! It's a good thing that the South Pole has no apex predator patrolling the ice. A lone person pedaling away on a recumbent would be fair game for a polar bear.

I'll do the low teens if not too windy. Probably no ride for me if low teens and winds 15+ mph. Just don't want frozen fingers if I have to take gloves off to change a flat tire. That's the main problem or concern I have with very cold weather riding. Forutnately, I get very few flats in winter.

Man, is there any place LA doesn't steal water from?

From a San Diego perspective, let me just say that I'm impressed at all you riding in these cold temps.

I'm in your area, I've been commuting to work all this week. It is cold.

50F is a moderate summer day. Nothing "polar" about that!

    Stay warm!
I don't ride below 50 either. But I have to admit and what Floridamtb didn't say is we have to quite ridding for about 6-8 weeks around August. It is just too hot. Even all the tech fabric you can wear, you just can't stay cool. 92 used to be my limit, but I'm older now and stay below that. Sometime early am will work.

I have been to Lauderdale in August and it is like a blast furnace with Palm Trees.

I didn't say that I stop riding in August because I don't. Last year I rode 470 miles in July, 490 miles in August and 460 in September, yea you get soaked in sweat but it feels great, you just have to start your ride early in the morning (6:30 - 8:00 on Weekdays and 8:00 - 11:00 on Weekends) and then jump in the pool or ocean. I've never said it's too hot to ride, but I have said it's too cold.

In South Florida 50 is the dead of winter. I'm from Virginia and Northern California so I know what winter should be, I guess I've wimped out in ten years of South Florida 70 degree winters lol

This has been my normal low cutoff point as well.
