I am not as bad off as some others around the country, but the wind chill is right at about 0 F right now, and there is just no way I would do it. The next few days will be either at the gym or at the house on the trainer and doing floor excersises.

One good thing about it being this cold (-13 this morn) , is that when it warms into the 30's by the weekend ,it will feel like 60 .
I ride because... I really enjoy it !

I'd like to try a sub-zero ride sometime but there's no way I'd make a habit of it for recreation or training. It was 5 degrees this morning, supposedly -10 with windchill tho I took a sheltered route, and I felt that I had another 5 degrees of slack but I can't say I actually enjoyed it. Excessively cold takes the fun out of it.

don't do it. you can get a stroke or a heart attack in such cold weather even if you never had symptoms before and even if you are fit.

I'm good to about 14F provided there's not too much wind, and for rides around 10 miles and less. Below that... brr. I'm a wimp I guess.

Whereas those of us on the other side of the Atlantic are experiencing much warmer-than-normal temperatures:
Weather Services International: European Seasonal Forecast

WSI is the professional arm of The Weather Channel, and they do a seasonal prediction every month that looks three months out, and this one says that temperatures here in Europe are supposed to be above normal for the rest of winter. Today in Heidelberg I had a very warm and comfortable 13 degrees (55 for y'all Americans), and I'm hoping that it will continue like this, because it's perfect, and the opposite of the horrible winter we had last year.

It was bring and sunny all weekend. It's in the mid 40s F. We're having a drought winter, so no rain. Seattle winter is looking pretty good!

coldest i've gone has been about 42, but I was still wearing shorts with some garneau leggings, short fingered gloves, short sleeve jersey with underarmour base layer. it was chilly but warmed up for the ride home that afternoon

I live in Madison, WI. It's been crazy up here. Woke up yesterday to -19 degrees with wind chills WAY below that. Coldest I've ever experienced; not even my car liked it I saw a commuter riding through the mup sans helmet. That guys slips/goes-down, hits his head and he's screwed as at those temps the mup will be desolate. This morning saw a guy on a cyclocross bike on the road riding clipless, trackstanding and all; badass. Had a powertap rear wheel, lol. It was -13 w/o the windchill. Coldest I've gone out is 5 degrees with clean roads and a buddy. No solo riding at those temps for me. Looks like 30s this weekend; I plan to ride depending on road conditions.

Never too cold to ride my rollers indoors.

This coming weekend, Seattle weather is expected to be more normal. Rain! Better to have water than the frozen stuff.

We're expecting low 40's with some sun here this weekend. Looking forward to a bike ride myself.... as well.

I drove my wife to a doctors appointment the other day. The roads were icy and it was 5 BELOW. And I saw a guy in tights, a jacket, and helmet on a road bike. Not even so much as cycling glasses. I didn't think that could be done.

Weather has been a huge hinderance lately ; if it's in the 30's and the roads are dry , I'm heading out.

Cascade snowpack is way way way below normal. Snoqualmie ski resorts are closed, you can see grass poking through the inch or two of snow there. Lot of places that should be under several feet are bare.

At least you guys have the Colorado River; parts of the Rockies are about normal.

Yeah, here in AZ we have it pretty good with afternoons in the 70s. Last night's ride dropped down to 47f and I though, "My life is hard." My wife started telling me about the Popsicle that is the mid-west/east after I got home and I thought, "My ride wasn't that bad."

    I don't ride below 60 degrees... that's about 2 days a year
