Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have done sub-zero degrees when there was no ice on the roads. But I have no gear that would enable me to do a ride in that weather and not be miserable (or not die pretty much).

Death sucks... if only for a brief moment.

Depends a lot where in CA you are. Truckee and Mammoth Lakes are often a some of the coldest spots in the western US.

Maybe I'm just a big baby then because riding in this weather takes just about every ounce of joy right out of riding that I get when it's nice out. I tried indoor cycling on an expensive stationary bike for 15min and that was more enjoyable than riding in the cold, and that was extremely boring. I even bought cold weather under layers and crap this year intending to put up miles all year.. can't bring myself to do much more than my commute and the occasional 50° temps longer rides. I guess Sixty Fiver just needs to buy me a house in the tropics...
