    minimizing crotch soreness

Background (you can skip if you want): Chicago winter started (way too) early, so I've barely ridden a real bike for more than a month. I've exercised on a recumbent bike at the gym in the meantime, so my legs and lungs are still pretty good. But I'm sure my butt/crotch has lost its callous. I'm going to California (near Santa Cruz) Thursday-Monday, and will have 3 consecutive riding days. (Traveling for the first time with Bike Friday Pocket Rocket)

Question: With an out of shape butt/crotch, wanting to ride 20-40 for 3 consecutive days, how do I minimize soreness there, so I won't have to forego riding my third day. (I already know "HTFU" so telling me that won't be helpful.) I use chamois cream, so I'm most curious to know what to do after my ride, aside from showering. Any potion that might help?

If you've been riding the trainer then you'll be fine. The trainer is tougher on your junk than riding outdoors.

Just keep using Chamois cream. Being from Chicago hopefully you're supporting our own - http://www.enzoscyclingproducts.com/chamois-cream

If you're using Enzo's and getting out of your bibs quickly and showering and washing your bibs in between rides then you will keep it all to a minimum. Have fun getting away from this crap weather we're having.

I've made this suggestion through the website, but since you know them maybe you'd do better.

Anyway, I use Enzo's, but my wife isn't happy with the tingle so she uses other stuff. I realize taking the minty ingredients out will change some things, but I know she isn't the only lady who prefers that sort of Chamois cream.

If you happen to be privy to this, what do the ladies you sponsor use?

Most of the ladies we know use Enzo's honestly. With personal products it's always different strokes for different folks. From what I understand the tingle is not from the mint but rather the tea tree oil. The mint is solely a scent that is added.

If you put in anything on the site I am sure Wayne has looked at it.

I can say for sure that with their success I don't foresee them changing the Buttonhole formula any time in the near future.

Check out Balm Co as a reference for selecting product. Another good guy.

Oh, no I don't want him to stop making the regular stuff. That's what I use.

But if he could package some up before the Tea Tree goes in he would probably have few more sales.

And yes, been to Balm Co. She is currently waiting on a sample of Chompers Booty Balm based on their review. But we are not far from Chicago and would like to follow your suggestion of supporting a local company, especially when they make a top product at a better price than their competition.

There is skin damage and there is muscle soreness from loss of tone. I question OP's comment about "callous". In my experience there is no such thing on the tender tissues in question. One's normal preventive measures should work as well to protect from chafing after having not ridden for a while as when riding regularly. But the muscle tone is a different thing. Second day soreness is to be expected, although the trainer experience may provide protection from that about as well as outdoor road cycling would have.
