Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Worth the hassle?

Currently riding a 2011 CAAD SuperSix 1 frame that has seen better days. The frame and fork have been inspected and was given four thumbs up, but there are very noticeable wear marks inside the front fork, and several spots on the frame. The paint has also faded and it looks awful in the light. Would it be worth seeking out a price quote for paint and repair? If it's cheaper to buy a whole new frame then so be it, but if it isn't I'd like to get a rough idea on what it would cost to repair some nicks in the carbon and repaint the frame and fork.

Thanks

You should be able to get the frame and fork repainted for $500 or less including the prep and repairs. But getting authentic decals and duplicating the original paint scheme or one like it are the hard parts. Even if the decals are available from the manufacturer or other source, working them into the modern, complex color scheme could be a problem. If you just want a black out treatment or old fashioned one or two colors in a simple scheme, that is pretty easy. Not too many painters can do the robotically applied color schemes that incorporate decorative decals that you get from the factory. You can't beat the price with a new frame for sure, but you may have to make some aesthetic compromises with a repaint. Not that it wouldn't be good looking, just not likely original.

I have been discounting the possibility that Cannondale would do it for you, but that may be incorrect. Perhaps they have such a service. That should be the first stop on your journey to this this done.
