A cannondale synapse is neither exotic or rare. Kind of like a Ford Fusion. Op should get his money back.

If you buy a tv at walmart and discover the screen is scratched when you get home, what would you do? Let walmart spend weeks trying to get a new glass panel to replace the scratched one? No, you would take it back and get a different tv.

@buzztronic I'm with you I would be a little upset, after just buying a bike and seeing something like that. Hopefully everything is taken care of, especially since I am looking at getting a bike similar to yours.

You bought it with your credit card I assume. Get them involved . Most have consumer protection departments , especially when vendors give THEIR clients the runaround.

Thats a last resort for me I think. Again I'm not looking to hurt the LBS, just trying to get what I paid for. If they tell me tough luck (which they haven't), then I'll consider my options.

Buzz, its not hurting the LBS, it is about getting what you paid for.

Touch it up with nail polish and call it a day. In two months you will forget about it anyways. If it were my shop I would give you 100 store credit and make you happy anyway possible to keep your future business.

You did buy the bike from an LBS, so it's really up to them to make Cannondale take the responsibility. If C-dale have had some company putting the BB in doing this, it's Cannondale who should take that discussion. Seems as we all stubble in similar things sometime, sadly! Hope it resolves well enough for you to feel happy.

Consumers holding companies accountable is at the heart of a properly-functioning free market.

It is incumbent upon upon the OP to do so in this instance, else he risks being responsible for global economic chaos.

    Just sayin'. No pressure.

You think it's on you to help others strive to be better....on an Internet forum about bicycles? Surely there are more appropriate avenues to begin your journey. IMO you should have stopped when you wrote "My bad" and just deleted the post. Taking your shots and then apologizing for it all in the same post is very passive aggressive.

Basically Cannondale said that from the pictures it doesn't look like a problem but we could send the frame to them to have them inspect/scan it and if there is damage they'd repair it. I called bull**** on that since it's clear that I was sold damaged goods out of the box (even according to the shop mechanic that put the bike together). I said I'm not interested in a repair to damage Cannondale caused, I'm interested in a the bike I'm paying $2K for not being damaged before it leaves the factory. Bike shop said they'd talk to Cannondale again and see what they say. They said if they do send out a new part, it'll likely just be the frame and we'd have to go through the hassle of disassembling and rebuilding the bike around the new frame which I imagine they aren't too excited about since it's lost labor for them as well.

So far I'm not very impressed with Cannondale's support or the bike shop's execution on this matter. Unless things turn around in the next few days, I can safely say they've both lost a customer.
I had a small crack develop on the head tube of my synapse. Looked like just clear coat but the shop sent photos to Cannondale and I ended up with a replacement frame. The difference is one (mine) was a potentially dangerous issue if the HT decides to give out on a descent and the other (yours) is likely cosmetic. Granted, a new bike should not have damage and certainly not from those who build/assemble it. I wouldn't be happy either to find damage on a new bike. Did you get a good price? If so, that might be partly why. If you paid full price I think the shop could hook you up with some store credit or something.

Btw, did I misunderstand or is this shop more a sporting goods store than an LBS? You might get less satisfaction from a store that isn't a full on bike shop and they might not have the connections with Cannondale to get things done. Just a guess though.

Its a bike & ski shop which is not uncommon in an area surrounded by mountains. It's not a general sporting goods store.

Shop claims that it'll take at least a month to get a new frame. I think they may be jerking me around in hopes that I just stop complaining.

Not it impressed at this point.

    I'm not trying to defend the shop or the brand but what they are telling you may indeed be true. Here's why;

The way manufacturing works is that the frames are produced, painted and delivered to the assembly factory to be built and boxed. They are then shipped out to distributors and then to shops. This so pretty much where we are in the cycle at this point.

After that is done, the factory sends out warranty stock to the various distributors or warranty centers world wide. There is a lag between full bike production and shipment and the filling in of warranty stock as most brands hang onto stock until all bike production is completed to make sure those are taken care of first. The remaining products are then shipped out as warranty stock.

The local distributor is probably giving your local LBS a delivery date based on this information.

Not all brands function EXACTLY like this but most run close enough to this that what your LBS is telling you may indeed be true.

My warranty frame took around 10 days to arrive at the shop. There were two colors in stock that I was able to choose from. It's possible your frame or size is not currently in stock and thus a longer wait. There is often a long wait to get a bike. I was told the bike I just ordered would ship in April - a bike introduced last year and available in shops but not my particular size, color and model. So, yeah, a month isn't totally out of line but I feel your pain. At least it sounds like it's being replaced which is good.

Please do the world a favor and tell us the name of this bike shop. At times like these I really don't feel bad about mail order being the new medium and replacing the local bike store. Here's what I would do:

    1. Get in touch with the owner or company that manages the bike store and make sure they know what's going on.
    2. You paid for a product you were supposed to start enjoying immediately. It's their responsibility to give you a loaner, at the very least.
    3. Make it clear to them that you will expose both Cannondale and the shop for the people they are. To call either party unprofessional at this point would be the understatement of the year. Set up a blogger page for free and send them the link, including where you mention both brands multiple times. Do some creative SEO and your blogger page will be set up to cause some major damage. Make it clear to them that you will remove the blog once they remedy the situation. The possible damage to both Cannondale and the bike store's brands far outweighs whatever it would cost them to do the right thing.
    4. Contact your district attorney's consumer protection unit. Make Cannondale and the bike store's management / owners aware of this. You'd be surprised at the level of protection some states will offer consumers.

Having read this story has made me reconsider any future Cannondale purchases.

This is the worst thing I heard in a long time. The store accepted to give him a new frame that will come within a month. He just need to ride his bike for a month or a loaner if they want to send it back now. This is to me how it should happen and there's no need to put crap everywhere on the internet about it.

Just in case you were thinking of using the dispute resolution process with your credit card, you better check the time limitations. Some mandate that the claim be submitted within a 30 day period.

I guess i don't no what the problem is if Cdale is going to give him a new frame and the LBS is going to do the work.It will be right then.I am not a bike mechanic however,is it a big deal to transfer the components from one bike to other?

Incorrect. Perhaps you didn't read the whole thread. New bikes don't come with scratches. A scratched bike is a used bike. He paid for a new bike, that is what he should recieve. Personaly, I would have returned the bike with the first refusal to do anything.
