I'm from Kansas but live just north of Tulsa. Gotta love the wind. Also love that yesterday I rode in almost 70 degree weather and today its in the teens.

A bit cold. Ha. 19 with a wind chill of 7 here. And I'm sure its a long ways from being the coldest spot in the states right now. The rough part here is that a few years ago in one years time we had 118 for high and -26 for a low. The day after that -26 low it got almost to 80.

The first time I visited Kansas I was surprised at the rollers.
The problem with Arizona is all the a-hole Californians that moved there because the cost of living is lower.

The problem with the wind this time of year isn't so much the speed, but the wind chill. Hills eventually end, but -40F wind chill is for the entire ride, 'cuz it's always in your face.

-2 here in Chicagoland, and going down to -22F tonite.
It's blowing so hard, I can only shovel that oxygen/hydrogen mix for about 45 minutes, before I can't feel my fingers............
Right now, the wind chill is -30. Damn, it's cold!

I live in NOLA- several hurricanes-lotta rain
BUT the WORST weather I have ever been in- was once in TX-panhandle-on HY287 just E of Amarillo
and in Oklahoma-on I-40 maybe 100 miles E of OKC
Horrendous winds-light up the sky light show-THUNDER- and driving rain
worst weather I was ever caught out in-driving.
Yeah TX panhandle and OK you have my sympathy-your weather sucks!!

my high for here tomorrow (tuesday) is 20f with sustained winds of 30+. by no means the coldest state in the union but this has been the norm for the last few weeks which is abnormal for the mountains about 60kms west of D.C.

It appears that they do. Slightly less than half the wind generation of CA, and but just a tad less per square mile than CA:

For what it's worth, good ol' Texas has more than double the wind-generating capacity of California, and a fair bit higher per square mile. It's mostly in the flat emptier parts of the state so you don't hear a lot about it.

You drive through these areas on extremely windy days and maybe 1/50 windtrubines are turning, out of fields and fields and miles upon miles of wind mills. The sheer size of the area makes me think about transmission loss and the lack of power storage. That is power being generated "here/now" how far does it need to go before it is used?
