Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Art's Cyclery in San Luis Obispo, CA

Anybody live in this area? I was wanting to buy a specialized saddle, but the guy told me specialized doesn't let them ship their specialized products. But from his tone, it sounded like they're totally fine with someone picking it up, and then shipping it out. If anyone can do this for me, I will you forever.

I don't like to spend $130 on a saddle. It's only been a year since I graduated college, so I'm still thinking like a cheapskate.

I had the exact same issue happen to me. Luckily I was out of town for business and I was able to swing by the shop and score the Toupe at a substantial discount.

I'll throw in a $20 tip, plus cost of shipping.

you know what, I might just use my LBS. Maybe I'll get a discount.

Tell your LBS what you're scheming. If they have half a brain between the entire staff, they'll accommodate you. You're not going to be a broke student forever. If they tell you to hit the road, you didn't want to deal with them anyway.

I am actually from slo (arroyo grande more specifically). I'll be home the 22nd, 23rd, for a doc appointment on the 24th (I go to Fresno State). I know I have like 4 posts on here....but I am on rbr under the same name and tacoma world (teamsarcasm, 6.5k posts there).

I assume you can give them a cc over the phone or something. If you don't mind waiting till then I don't mind taking it to the post office. Plus that gives me an excuse to poke my head in there

no I'm not going to do that to my LBS. The price Art's Cyclery offers is way less than what even the LBS can probably get them for. that would be a dick move.

I appreciate it, but I need them like next week. My current saddle is choking my behind already, and I'm trying to do 100+ miles/week on them.

OP, you know Specialized has closeout saddles online that they sell directly. Some are discounted, some not. Just go on their website. The Pro I think is reduced to $130 from $200. Others are cheaper.

Just checked their website. That is a good price. How do they get away with that. I thought Specialized was pretty tight on minimum advertised price.

Well, I smell a side business for someone in the area. Stock up, mark up and still undercut just about anyone else. Maybe someone already is doing this.

I'm pretty sure the store would notice something like that.
