Tips for using GoPro?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Three, companies go out of business. I had a bunch of videos uploaded to Contour's site and linked to various forums. When Contour (temporarily) went under, so did my videos. Luckily I had them all stored on my computer/backup drives.

Just some food for thought

Then maybe upload to two websites instead of one? youtube, vimeo, facebook, etc. I just don't see the purpose of having hours and hours of footage that I'm not going to watch again. I'd rather have the trimmed videos edited and uploaded, so they're not taking up space in my HDD

On another note, I was contemplating on getting the contour camera, until I discovered the cheaper version doesn't have a removable battery pack. For general applications, I feel like contour is more convenient. quick mount/dismount, compact, and easy to go from recording to not recording and back again (really handy for long races). Also, I can strap it on one of my cats or wear it on my head. is the contour+1 still available? I imagine the image quality is probably extremely similar.

Anyway, I use the non-waterproof door, because it'll help with heat dissipation, which is a problem with gopros (while they're stationary at least). Also, I shoot in 30fps at 720p because youtube only allows 30fps anyway, and 720p will save WAY more battery, and is pretty good quality.
I like doing all my videos in 1080 whenever space allows. If you ever crop your videos, the video quality still looks good.

I do a lot of cropping to zoom in on interesting segments.
This is more so for my mnt bike or snow boarding videos. Zoom in on my buddies crashing.

That doesn't solve the dumbed-down quality issue. I do watch my videos again, well some of them anyway. I did go through my collection and delete a bunch of stuff I knew I would never watch again though. All my videos are the edited versions. Raw files are deleted as soon as the edited versions are backed up.

Vimeo dumbs quality down even more and only allows 500 MB of uploads per week unless you pony up for a "plus" account.

Contour's current models are the Contour+2 and the ContourROAM2: https://contour.com/collections/cameras

I have 3 Contours I'll never ride with again unless it's a crash video. I use 2 silvers and a hero3+ black for off-bike stuff. The silvers are nice because of the battery life but the new hero3+'s should solve/nearly solve that. Get the bacpac, 64GB cards, extra batteries and the k-edge mounts both front and back (if you have enough saddle rails to mount it to). You'll be set for most situations. I'm using the black for capturing the teams races on a custom video rig I built, that holds 4 cameras/lights/batteries, which is nice for the 120fps. I'm finding that 240fps needs a ton of light I rarely have. Slowing 120 down to 30 looks amazing though. I'm a 1280x720 fan mainly because of the 60fps on the silvers. You can probably use the 60fps on the black but battery life may be an issue. GL

If anyone is interested, Woot is having a sale on GEAR Pro cameras for 40 or 60, depending if you want 720 or 1080p. I was going to buy one but then read the reviews on Amazon and will probably stay away.
