Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

yes...I went to a 23mm wide wheel from my stock 19mm (I'm guessing that's what they are the measure just under 20mm with calipers, my new set measures over 23mm).

Running a 23mm tire and 23mm wheel makes for a very confident ride. I've been very happy with my choice thus far. When I swapped back to stockers this winter, the difference was immediate.

I understand you were trying to impart a complete piece of information, but wheel weights are normally given as wheel pair including rim tape but not skewers, tires or tubes and definitely not cassette. At least that is how I understand it. When comparing wheel weights as you would purchase them, the tires and tubes are not relevant to the comparison as your choices of those don't affect the differences among what is available to you in wheels. Skewers sometimes come with the wheels, but are easily changed out, and are better left out of the comparison. Rim tapes could also be left out, but my understanding is they are usually included. The differences among them, even when including the Velo Plug option, are so small that it doesn't matter much anyway.

if you are not rolling around on Zipp 404s or 808s then you should be ashamed to leave your house.

Thanks for the responses, everybody. For what was essentially a joke/throwaway thread, you guys gave me some good info.

I've now been reading about the wider-rim trend, and it has calmed my GAS for the Vuelta wheels. I can now look for wider rims, and pretend I need them instead!

This.

I have a desire to try new wheels. Plus, my current set come in at 2,088 claimed weight. I could have handbuilt wheels built at sub-1,500 for right at $500. Seems like a worthy allocation of money if you ask me.

My new wheels will have a wider brake track (24mm, Pacenti SL23s). I just can't decide if I want to go low spokes and stick to road, or if I want to beef up the spoke count to throw down on some local gravel roads.

Yep on the build except the spokes are Revolutions. 20/24. Some pairs of wheels were even built with the discontinued 1.8/1.5/1.8 Revolutions instead of the newer 2.0/1.5/20 version. Wheels were built before Brandon (BHS) started carrying spokes, but in future I would likely get Lasers from him. So far no problems, and since using the Park tensiometer, never need to retrue.
Do you build wheels for others?

I think I have a shopping problem.
If they are flexier than what you have, and they probably are, you will gain nothing.
