She's 7!!!

On a Raleigh Hybrid bike we bought her for Christmas!

She has ridden with us at the mountain to sea trail numerous times, but never went so far.

Anyone else here have super children?

Congrats! I'm hoping my boy (will be 7 this year) can get up to 10 miles. He did a few 5 and 6 mile rides last year.

unfortunately she isn't motivated to ride much otherwise... Sigh.

My kids have done just shy of 30 (Son just turned 11, daughter is 13) but 19 is pretty impressive for 7! Well done dad!

A friend of mine who posts here has a son who rode his second century this month, I believe he's 13. I assure you his feats inspire my son!

When my son was 8 or 9, 10 to 12 miles was about the limit. By age 10, or 11, he got a lot stronger, and he did a 25 mile ride 2 seasons ago, though I didn't tell him in advance how far we would be going. Last season at age 12, he rode many 20 to 40 mile rides with me on an old Trek 800 mountain bike. Maybe this spring or summer now that he is riding a hybrid, it is time to try a multi day ride.

That's awesome. If I ever have a kid I certainly hope he or she is motivated to stay fit and active.

I got my daughter (10) a road bike for Christmas. She's a careful child, and can be a little tentative physically.

Sunday we went to a local park, and she rode 6.2 miles. She loved it, and announced it was now one of her favorite sports.

Impressive! My 5 year old girls can do about a mile before they lose interest and just want to play in the dirt.

Awesome feat for a seven year old! How did she feel after the ride? Be careful she does not lose interest due to excessive miles on a hybrid for a 7-year old.

What I found with my son when he was little, was that it's not so much a muscle-and-body issue. As an adult, you realize that you may get really tired but still need to keep going if you want to finish. Little kids don't understand that, so they want to just quit where they're at when they get tired. But when a little bit of maturity starts kicking in, then they're good to go quite a bit farther.

Depends on the kid. That's true of most kids that young. But there is this one 7 year old gymnast I coach who is so serious he will work himself until he cries sometimes - and he still doesn't get emotionally upset. I tell him to take a rest and he does. But says he is fine. And he also teaches his classmates gymnastics at school.

Interesting. My daughter suddenly switched -- as soon as she was comfortable on the bike she didn't want to stop. It was pretty clear the endorphins were kicking in.

That's awesome! My three daughters, ages 8, 7 and 7, did ten miles last weekend. They did it in 1:10 on single speed bmx style kids' bikes. At mile six we hit a stiff headwind, but they soldiered on.

My son was akin to Calvin (of Calvin and Hobbes) with his bike misadventures. Quit trying at 6, learnt to ride at 12, but didn't ride much.

Fast forward to 21. Bike commuter in Seattle starting last summer, and he and I just completed the Chilly Hilly yesterday. Wish we had been cycling together before, but there is something gratifying about my kid actually wants to hang out with the old man by riding together.

She slept very well last night but other wise no problem.

She is the reason mom and I started riding two years ago. I taught her how to ride and within in a month and a half we could not run nearly as fast as she could ride so mom and I started on MTBs. We bought her an adult (small) size hybrid bike for Christmas. She was able to maintain a much faster average as opposed to her first little kids bike. She will stop often for water but otherwise she is a trooper.

My 7 year old did a 40 mile ride last summer. My 9 year old did 62 miles. On BMX bikes! We went slow, stopped every 10 miles or so to rest and have a snack, and just enjoyed the ride. We were on a bike path, so no cars to worry about. The best part, though, was the nice, long conversations we had while riding.

My three year old daughter was doing 6 km dirt rides last summer with us. No training wheels. Can't wait to see how far and where we go this year. It's one of my favourite things in the world, riding with my kids.

My 12 year old son is working on his Boy Scout cycling merit badge. I was surprised when I saw how far the furthest ride was. He has to do 2-15s, 2-25s and one 50 miler. That's a long way for a 12 year old on a WalMart bike. I had wanted to give the cycling class to the boys but there were several boys in the troop that I doubted could handle the 50 miler and if they did may not want to ride ever again. So for now I think he is the only one working on his cycling merit badge.
