Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Treat the existance of any wheel truck as a welcome surprise.

With regard to brake pads: Don't worry about them, beyond making sure they can open up to 25mm. In most instances, you get the wheel they hand you. It probably won't be your own. Be thankful if it's the correct gear count and spacing. Although, it sounds like 11spd spacing is now so close to each other that Campy, Sram and Shimano are all interchangable.

When you finish, you trade back someone's spare for your original.

The existance of any wheel truck would strengthen the case for using the Roubaix, as there's at least a chance of there being other 10spd wheels. Probably no chance at all of there being 6spd or 8spd or whatever flavour the Panasonic accepts, other than the ones you bring and which may be burried at the bottom of the bed.

I raced an early 90s Trek steel frame with shimano friction downtube shifters in a 100 mile Cat 3 race. It did have Zipp tubulars. The race was flat, and I don't think the bike hindered me.

Wow!
Sorry about the crash bro. Glad your bike didn't suffer too much.

I say you take your Roubaix to the next race or 2, if its anywhere near the feel of your TCR, you'll most likely benefit it more over you Panasonic.
Sure the Panasonic will push you harder, but the feel/handling/responsiveness will be different.
The Roubaix will be different too, but if you have both fitted already, the difference way be almost unnoticeable.

Glad I didn't take your Roubaix offer from earlier eh?
Heal up bro, & keep the rubber to the pavement!

I wish I had seen this sooner. I just pretty much gave away my old Tsunami (aluminum frame) and the geometry on that was pretty much based on a Giant TCR M/L with a slightly taller head tube. You could have raced the hell out of that and not feel bad if you crashed it.

Anyways, I don't think the steel frame will hold you back but the downtube shifters might especially if you are not used to them. If I were you, I would sell the Roubaix and get something you won't feel bad crashing or thrashing on the trainer. Then keep the Giant for the nice days.

Thanks. I think I am going to gamble it when I get there if I get there. This week I've skipped my training days due to not feeling well and having to take care of stuff at work. Depending on how I feel tomorrow I'll have to see if I make it sundee or not. Man I am tired for some odd reason.

I'm seriously thinking of a beater, gonna have to look into that tsunami. Maybe I can find one laying around on CL or something. Right now in the process of learning so an old beater with brifters might work, I want to race the TCR though. It is a blazing fast machine!
