Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't know anything about road bikes but have chosen this one over the GMC Denali offered at walmart. There is a link to pictures of the bike below if you want to see more. I know it has a chro molly frame. The 260 includes the guy delivering it to my house. What do you guys think? I'll be using the bike to commute 6-10 miles maybe 4 days a week.

Im about 5"8 and I usually ride a 53.... isnt 57 a bit big? but if you can get the price down some more the pug would be cool if it fit you of course, but if your willing to spend a few more theres tons of great bikes out there in the 500 range.

I bought a $250 vintage road bike on Craigslist, rode it for a month, then bought a modern bicycle for $1k, then six months later bought a CAAD10 frame. My only regret is not getting the CAAD10 sooner but appreciated the CAAD10 more after riding the $1k frame for so long.

I have a panasonic from 1988 that i ride quite some. It's awesome and works great that being said you might benefit from getting something a bit more modern. Maybe a late 90's early 2000 allez or caad for 100 or 200 bucks more. Between the two you mention i'd take the peugeot. If you dont want it feel free to send me the ad, but only because i already own two full modern race bikes and like collecting vintage stuff.

Thanks guys, and the 260 includes him delivering it approximately 20-30 miles. the only reason I wanted a road bike is I'll be racking miles up and want the most efficient means of getting where I'm going. I figured mountain bikes would be much slower.

I would rather ride an ancient Peugeot than a new Denali, any day of the week, but I think 57cm is too big for a 5'10" rider. Especially with 27" wheels. Keep looking.

That is a moderately decent deal (not GREAT)

I'd hold out another day or two for something with a more modern drivetrain, brifters (brake/shifter combination) and more standard 700c wheels.

I'd offer $182 for the pug. Then settle for $217. That sounds about right

don't get that walmart GMC for the love of god.

vintage are the best value if you're on a budget and has simple needs.

I've taken the advice to look at newer bikes and am on bikes direct choosing between a dawes or a gravity. I like the gravity better so far
