Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hopefully, I'll get things back on track before May. Otherwise, I might have to do the Fly-By-Night on a single speed.

My family has asked me to blog as I go. I honestly think it won't happen (won't have energy), but since I like the tech I figured what the heck. I also do not have a smart phone, so WiFi and the Nexus will be my only means of getting map or route planning if my original plan alters.

Gotcha - yeah, I don't think that the blogging is going to happen, either; that's a pretty aggressive schedule you've got there (I will say, though, that you're in danger of inspiring me to do some smaller-scale 2-3 day tour this season... stop being a bad influence).

So, on my phone (Nokia) I have the option of downloading maps for entire regions (I have all of North America stored) so that they're available whether or not I have a data connection - I've heard that you can similarly cache with google maps. Definitely check that out before embarking on your trip - GPS does ****-all if you can't load the map around your position.

Roads are. I expect a big bunch at the South Boulder Rec Center, leaving at 11:00. Boulder, Lyons, Berthoud, Hygiene. I did ride yesterday, and giving the NP a bath is a pain. Aero Seatpost=First World Problem.

In honor of daylight savings...Spring Cleaning! Lesson re-learned...don't put on a new SRAM chain leaving mfr gunk on it then ride 250 miles on winter roads full of crud...nastiest chain I've had in a while...

Just came back from a quick ride on the new MUP near me. I don't plan to use it much as it has lots of walkers, dog walkers, joggers, kids on scooters, etc but it was a nice recovery ride and I got a chance to actually see the trail. Lots of puddles from snowmelt, which made me appreciate the fenders on my SS commuter.

Beautiful Colorado day.

R3SL is fantastic. A little bit stiffer up front than the Paketa, but noticeably stiffer in the rear triangle. A bike you can ride fast all day.

I figured you did. He came in 2nd at the Frostbite TT this morning. Fourth to start, picked off a couple 5s. Missed 1st by four seconds.

Not bad for his first TT. I just talked to him. He was really excited. It's fun. I told him he probably could have made up that time with a wheel cover.
