Parts on order for first wheel build attempt with LBS tutelage. I have a 36 hole Duraace front hub ($10 from LBS), 36 hole Surly fixed rear hub, and SunRingle CR18 rims in silver. Figured I would make a touring wheelset for the SS "round the state" ride before going complicated. LBS strongly pushed straight gage spokes, so I went along. I figured build first wheelset with cheapest parts possible so as to not roach too much valuable.

No ride outside today. Low teens when I woke up till an hour before the scheduled ride time. with a .5 "of snow. Eff that action. I elected instead to do another "hour" on the debil...errrr, trainer. Once again setting my sights on the magical 60 min. goal, and fell 14 seconds short. Oh the humanity.
Looks like I have lost 5 lbs so far. 225 this am.

This is literally where I am right now in a perfect state of contentment. I even have free wifi on the beach. And that young man on the Segway- what a nice fellow. He brings me whatever I want. Can I have green salad with my sandwich instead of fries? Of course. When is happy hour? Right now. Seriously I am a little blissed out at this moment.

Should make an indestructible wheel set.

Straight guage spokes are cheaper and make for an easier build because they don't wind up as much, but they make for a slightly less durable and a bit heavier wheel.

I was willing to spring for double butted, because I want to be comfortable building with them in the future, but didn't want to piss off the guys that I am working with because they were adamant against. So I am going for easier build. The SunRingle rim is eyeleted, which I have read also makes the build easier, with reduced friction nipple to rim.

Up front I was not interested in the Duraace hub when they offered, as 36 spokes isn't sexy. But they are convinced I am going to taco my first build, and they are being super helpful. So I figure I will plop some cash with them and have a durable back up wheel set before I build my dream wheelset. Of course, I am already planning it.

It's below zero and snowing today. The next time someone says "it's too cold to snow", slap him upside his silly head.

I approve of the Habanero. And I am not old. Well, sorta. Not PCAD old. Mature. Yeah, that's it.

BTW had a fantastic 47 mile club ride today. Start temp was about 15F but by the end it was around 30F. Only three brave souls showed up.

I'm pretty sure the hawk living in the woods at the top of our hill is a Northern Goshawk. Got a decent look on today's snowshoe adventure.

No, sir. This is a week dedicated to lap swimming, tequila consumption & lying around. Well, we are going sailing tomorrow with our former boat neighbor who also happens to be in Mexico right now. But that's the only deviation we intend to make from a plan which is otherwise perfect in its simplicity.
