I know. All that cyber bullying we dished out musta finally got to him.

Actually, since he's all PnR these days I guess he wasn't getting enough bullying here.

To me, the biggest issue is that you might be moving to Australia, who the heck knows what it takes to move a dog from Taiwan. If Australia is currently rabies-free (have not kept up with that status, sorry), it might require a long quarantine.

But if you do move to Australia and get over your commitment issues, I wouldn't hesitate to get a dog even if you're in an apartment. You'd just have to match your accomodation and time available to the size and energy level of the dog.

I have had dogs as a single person and a married person, it's very doable either way. My highest energy dog ever was when I was a vet student, intern, resident and in the early career paying-my-dues phase. She was a Gordon Setter (best dog ever) and pretty much required a solid hour of running per day to be bearable as a house dog. It was good for me, though, got me out of the house/apt every day when I otherwise would have sat around reading & studying all the time. Obviously that was a very "advanced" type of dog to have, but there's lots of good beginner dogs if you really want one.

Just never don't get a dog that is smarter than you, @coasting. Ie no Border Collies.

Well, I was originally going to say "Afghan hound". But I didn't want to be insulting.

Its actually way easier lots of times to have a not-too-smart dog. The smart ones can get complicated very quickly. My favorite dogs are the setters, not exactly clever dogs, just a beautiful thing to watch them run and run and run and run, and they are really fun, happy dogs. Mr. H however does not appreciate hairiness and slobber. He married me even though I came with a Gordon setter, I guess I should feel honored.

The dachshunds are also not particularly clever but they don't drool and are tidy little dogs overall.

He's a good player and community guy - I would have liked to see him finish off his career at MN, but I think that it was the right thing to do, as an organization, to not shell out another 30-40 million for someone becoming increasingly one-dimensional. Hopefully the Bears have the kind of defense around him where they can let him gung-ho commit to the pass. Otherwise, be ready to give up some rushing yards as opposing offenses take advantage of his over-pursuit. All that said, I fully expect him to make two difficult Vikings games per year even more difficult as he ups his game against the ol' team.

I think I'll run the NP with Rails on the dirt this weekend. First time I'll be taking anything carbon to this race. Last two times have been on the Ridley. "Pave' tested." It says so on the Ridley's seat tube.

Years ago, we had an Italian Greyhound, and he was an amazing creature to watch run. He would lean through corners at a speed that was astounding.

He was also not the sharpest wheel of cheese.

All depends on what your lifestyle is. As a newly freed divorcee I wanted to run amok dating and living la vida loca in nyc. But I had a dog (Moose) in the hudson valley and I had to get back home every night to tend to him. Having a dog is like having a child, you have to be prepared and committed to being tied down. They ain't crapping in no litter box like a cat. lol

Sure the lady friend would be willing to come to my place for the evening, but that novelty wears thin pretty quickly when it involves a 75 mi commute to work the next morning.

If you want an active social life, partying and traveling and living spontaneously, a dog is better left for later.

You just can't take the place too seriously. Much the same can be said about most parts of the internet.

Lol, there is not much partying, traveling & living spontaneously when you are a resident, that's true. A dog works because you have no money or time to do much of anything else. Plus in my circumstance, everybody i knew was a dog person, i could always find someone to look out for my dog if I couldn't make it home. In my case though it would have been because I was dealing with some sort of emergency, not because I was out canoodling or attempting to canoodle.

It would be pretty hard for me personally to not have a dog as a permanent condition, I'd tend to manipulate circumstances to make it work. But I'm more motivated to have a dog than stay out partying. I say that @BillyD, not as a criticism, you are probably way more fun than me.

To each his own, obviously, but imo P&R is 10X worse. Those are some genuinely sick, hateful people in there. Many, probably not all, but I wouldn't spend 5 minutes in there trying to separate them.
