Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's sitting on my server, unwatched, along with the first Hobbit movie, also unwatched. One of these days.

Tangent - the wife actually got in to Sherlock (played by Benedict Cumberbatch, dude that voiced Smaug, for those not in the know), so it seems that any other viewing will be pushed back until we're caught up on that.

I know Cumberbatch has his fans, but after watching him during an interview on Top Gear, I've concluded that he is a very good actor because as a real person, he is an idiot.

I actually went to a movie theater the other day - a rarity since having a kid. Went by myself. It was *great* - why, in my younger years, did I think that there was a stigma attached to going to movies solo? I plan to do this more often, now. Side note: saw Grand Budapest Hotel. Decent. Beautiful visually.

Ha - before starting on Sherlock last week, I'd only seen him in Star Trek: Into Darkness, in which I thought he was pretty good. In both he plays an unusually smart guy. It must be the accent.

Thanks for the recommendation on Grand Budapest Hotel. We saw the shorts when we went to watch Monuments Men and I thought it could be quite an entertaining movie.

I liked Monuments Men. The character development was a bit short, and the acting was good, but the story itself was fascinating, and if nothing else should show how evil Hitler was (putting aside the humanity issues involved).

We've had quite the cultural hit recently. We went to see a local production of The Phantom of the Opera and it was really quite well done (although the orchestra let it down a bit). We also saw a production that compiled many Gilbert and Sullivan works. We're hoping to see another local production in July, of War of the Worlds, which will be interesting for the scenery changes (but the theatre coped with those in Phantom so I don't see too many issues).

Machka has us doing some concerts in the coming weeks. Busy times and it's always nice to get out of work clothes and get dressed up (although seeing other theatre goers, I sometimes wonder down which toilet the dress code was flushed).

We finally watched "Return of the King". Haven't attempted to get LoP into the Harry Potter series but I doubt it would take.

We're currently making our way through the local public library's collection of the Sherlock Holmes series starring Douglas Wilmer and also their Hercule Poirots starring David Suchet. Much of the movie watching is accompanied by sock-knitting and a sufficient quantity of both has been done that there is something recognizable as the top of the leg of a sock. I'm finding myself to also be a little less grouchy. Maybe it's because I'm getting paid again but it may also have to do with creating.
