...by far the most entertaining movie I've seen lately is "Inside Llewyn Davis".
Although it is very specific to a particular time and place (the East Coast folk music thing,)
it is universal in its appeal to the sorts of experiences and indignities that are heaped upon
those who are unfortunate enough to pursue a career in the arts. It is very, very funny.

This, too, is sitting on my server (I probably have 400+ movies, about half of them unwatched - it's a problem), but it's near the very top of the queue (I haven't had an opportunity/right mood confluence in the last two weeks). The tone - is it kind of morose? I'm wondering if I should have the wife watch it too, but she definitely prefers... well, she doesn't like depressing ****.
I think I just so identified with a lot of it from back in my 60's-70's starving artist days that
I came near to peeing myself with laughter in a couple of places. But the Coens are not noted
for upbeat films. This was probably the only one of their movies i've seen that lacked both
violence and blood. It's just really hilarious if you've ever tried to make a living at the arts.

55 miles on the SS yesterday, and it is painfully obvious that running does not help cycling. I will have a busy April to be ready for my May tour/death ride.

My understanding is that enough of the filming was done that it made more sense to fill in with GCI (on a few key scenes) rather than re-shoot it all. Kind of a damned if you do/damned if you don't situation.

The May ride is 660 miles over 7 days. Four states, and one night spent with my boy in college, and one night with my folks. Plan is first week in May.

Thanks for the recommendation on Grand Budapest Hotel. We saw the shorts when we went to watch Monuments Men and I thought it could be quite an entertaining movie.
I liked Monuments Men. The character development was a bit short, and the acting was good, but the story itself was fascinating, and if nothing else should show how evil Hitler was (putting aside the humanity issues involved).
We've had quite the cultural hit recently. We went to see a local production of The Phantom of the Opera and it was really quite well done (although the orchestra let it down a bit). We also saw a production that compiled many Gilbert and Sullivan works. We're hoping to see another local production in July, of War of the Worlds, which will be interesting for the scenery changes (but the theatre coped with those in Phantom so I don't see too many issues).
Machka has us doing some concerts in the coming weeks. Busy times and it's always nice to get out of work clothes and get dressed up (although seeing other theatre goers, I sometimes wonder down which toilet the dress code was flushed).

My wife has had a major crush on Ralph Fiennes for something like 25 years, so it was a forgone conclusion we would see the film. It was pretty well done. A little campy but good fun.
