I got hit by a motorist last Wednesday

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lots of pain, but the doctors all expect a full recovery.
Holy ****, you are lucky to be alive. I take it he was coming up behind you and the passenger mirror hit you? That my friend, is a decapitation scenario. Expect the pain to last weeks if not months but glad your alive.

Definitely sounds like an insurance claim, and potentially a lawsuit is in your future. Thus, I wouldn't post anymore about this accident, or your condition. Short objective update, like letting people know you're out of the hospital would be ok, but no editorial on how your doing, or how the accident happened.

We lawyers actually do search forums and social media.

I know you and i have never met but my prayers are with you!! i was hit in a similar manner as a young 13 year old cyclist with my first bike and the driver didnt even bother to stop, if i could have found the rat basterd i would have taken him for his entire worth!! you definitely need to get all you can from him especially since you were in a bike lane!!! complete negligence on that asshat's part!!! thank god you are alive and not pushing daisies!!! hope your recovery is quick and as painless as possible!

Dang, Bosox.

I went through similar injuries and the hardest part, for me, was having to wait (aka, lay around) before I could begin to do anything even resembling physical therapy. I hope you just filled your lifetime quota of cycling injuries and that there's clear sailing/riding ahead for you.

Y'know... it's ironic that injury lawyers are viewed as the worst of the worst. In fact, it's just opposite. This isn't a corporate lawyer suing a small business into bankruptcy to eliminate competition... it's not a lawyer your neighbor sic'ed on you because your fence is 3" too high... and it's not a lawyer greedily milking the process in a dispute between a home builder and a buyer... nor trying to screw one side in a divorce.

An injury lawyer is actually an honorable profession. Think about it. They help someone who was physically injured by someone else get fairly compensated- almost always via insurance. They are doing something good.

Going through a claims process for an accident with fatalities (not me, haha) and a serious brain injury (me, not haha) made me realize that the other side does NOT play fair when the money gets big. You need representation. An injury attorney is an entirely necessary entity and as I said, the most honorable of the species IMHO.

I just had a picc line implanted, so that I can be fed through a tube. My inability poop or pee has caused lack of appetite to the point that I could not eat or drink anything.

Hopefully this will help the recovery process.

The PICC line is a good thing, I've had them several times and it beats having to start new IV locations every few days. Hope that everything works out for you, that ruptured appendix can be really mean with the risk of sepsis and gangrene in the abdominal tissue from the release of toxins and such. Take care and rest up, let the docs get you better.

They found an intestinal blockage causing my digestive problems. Tomorrow morning they will open me up again to remove the problem.

Yay! More surgery.

I just saw this now. I'm sorry to hear about the accident, but I'm definitely glad it wasn't worse. I seem to be hearing about more crashes than usual lately. I hope you have as fast a recovery as possible, under the circumstances!

Sorry to hear that you got seriously messed up. I have gone though the collapsed lung and ribs thing before. It was rough. You have the leg to boot.

This will affect every aspect of your life for the foreseeable future. Keep your sense of humour and listen to the physio folks. Put in the work and I hope you heal well.

Good luck and please report back on the bike. There is growing concern.

Winky face smilie.

First off…I've so very sorry to hear of your accident OP…I hope for a speedy and full recovery for you.

Second…those F'ing extended mirrors…AAARGGG...

I got nailed the exact same way two years ago…******* just wouldn't get over as it was just he and I out on a country road. He smacked me and just kept driving. I'm not sure how I didn't biff but I managed to maintain control. Shoulder was bruised for weeks...

You are quite right. I hold the profession in high esteem and often think that had I not liked medicine so much I would have veered towards law. My wife is now working with a very good injury lawyer trying to recap considerable damages after being hit by a drunk driver going 90. I am very thankful for his services.

Hope the second surgery went well for BSY, an intestinal blockage is really serious. I have had several and the resection is slow to recover from, positive thoughts and prayers for his recovery.

The second surgery went well, and recovery is making progress with my lungs + digestive tract. The broken bones are mending slowly, but they are mending. Hopefully soon I'll be ready to eat food, but I'll know when that happens by farting.

Yesterday I was given 2 pints of blood because my hemacrit/hemoglobin #'s were low.
