    Would you guys please take your pissing match elsewhere. I'm the OP and am just trying to get some info. My post is getting burried in the middle of the bickering. Here is my question again.

    Thanks to those of you that replied to my original questions. I get it now.
    But is there a wheelset you would recommend that would be better than what came stock? I would use the new wheels on the road only and would want to stay in the 600.00 range. Once again keep in mind I weigh in at 220 right now.

    You have problems with pinch flats on your road bike? I don't think I've had a pinch flat in 3 or 4 years.

    2 or 3 times a year I'll have a tire's sidewall cut down by road debris. When that happens I don't want to deal with the mess of sealant all over the wheel i'm trying to boot.

    No, not really.

    But if you are looking for a reason to go road tubeless that would be the best reason.

    Pinch flats are mostly a non-issue on road bikes, but punctures are common. For these reasons, I'd say that puncture flat protection is the best reason to go road tubeless.

    With the mileage that I ride, the higher tire prices, and limited selection(& availability), tubeless tires just don't make sense for me at this time.

    Just read this. PLEASE DO IT!!!! I have been waiting for disc specific carbon for a while, I saw no point in getting a set of carbon rims for a rim brake bike when I knew I would be getting disc as soon as $$$ allows. I would definitely be in for a set, especially given that they would be tubeless ready!

    Also, thank you for confirming that losing the brake track on a carbon rim would in fact = weight savings.

    I spoke with the R&D people at one of the carbon vendors we work with. The goal is 23 wide by 38 deep and 400g. I have the 2D drawing on my table already. Unless I come across a major stumbling block we are going forward with this.

    Tubeless ready may or may not happen. It is all about weight and need in the market place and I am not convinced there is.
