Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Assos -- the real stuff -- is made in Switzerland. For a variety of reasons, the Swiss franc has become significantly stronger than the USD over the past 10 years -- i.e. whereas it used to be $1.30 to 1 franc, it is now 87Ē. This means you need to use more dollars to buy something made in Switzerland, and in order for Assos to make the exact same amount of money on that pair of shorts, they have to charge more for their exports.
The old Assos stuff used to be labeled "Made in Switzerland". Lately, it seems it's all (even the top level stuff) made in Bulgaria or Romania and "Engineered" or "Designed" in Swizerland. Kind of reminds me of Apple's "Designed in Cupertino", lol. "Made in some Chinese sweatshop by an 8 year old for a bowl of rice a day, but we'll still charge you arm and leg so our management can be 1%ers". I think Assos calls it "Made in Europe", which I suppose is technically true per lines on a map.

There are Chinese sweatshops in Italy and I would imagine other European countries as well.

The idea of it saying this on apple products makes me chuckle. Funny cuz its true!

That said, I'll give their quality control credit. My macbook pro is hands down the best made laptop I've ever owned.

Ikea is designed in sweden and the quality inherent in that shines through. And Juan Valdez sure picks a lot of coffee.
