I thought of this thread as my wife had similar symptoms yesterday. Went to the ER and it was determined to be ileus, a non mechanical obstruction. Fortunately it's treatable without surgery. Hope you're recovering well.

Here's my update: I had the staples taken out today and I've been off painkillers now for 48 hours - my choice. I have some muscle soreness and I can't yet cough without pain, but other than that, I'm feeling okay. I'm gonna try and go back to work tomorrow. My surgeon is a one-time weekend cyclist and he mostly does weight loss surgeries, so he's sympathetic to my wanting not to lose my recent getting-into-shape momentum. He wants me doing nothing for the next couple of days and then I can start walking for cardio. He says I can start light free weights in about a week and then in 2 weeks, he wants to see me. If I'm far enough along, I can get on my trainer ("no rollers!" he said. :-) ). So I've got my eye on the calendar in hopes I can be doing light spinning soon.
I'm so into cycling, I would dream of my rides before I'd go out. I couldn't wait to get off on a ride and once out on the road, all my worries would just float away. It was like a drug. Not having it makes me long for it more. And of course, we've had a string of perfect spring days. Temperate and slightly breezy. My muscles have already started to atrophy. :-( But hell, I know it could've been worse. Like having to ride with a ****ing colostomy bag. Counting my blessings. Thanks for the positive words and get well wishes. And please, people, if you're in pain, seek medical help. You never know.

Makes my day brighter to read that one, glad that things are going well, be sure and avoid jokes or funny TV shows, laughing can be a real trial. You really don't want a colostomy bag, those things are a true pain (no puns intended) to deal with, I was so glad to be rid of them in June 2010......
